Fantasy Football Tips - January
Written: 9th January 2020
After an action-packed Christmas Period, January is the month of FA Cup Betting. Especially when you consider there are only three Premier League gameweeks in January, it was vitally important that all players performed well in December. That being said, it all comes down to who you’re playing against in your leagues. If you’ve got a head-to-head, you could just focus on ensuring you win each week rather than going for big point totals but if your priority was a points league, we believe that anything over 380 could suggest you had a good December as the average was in-between 340-350. Now, our expert managed this as he likes to be prepared like we all do at 21.co.uk, which is why you may have noticed we've already started getting ready with our Cheltenham Tips for one of the biggest events in the world in March.
However, in regards to our Fantasy Football Tips, if you had our four main picks, three of whom cost under 6 Million you would have picked up approximately half the average with just four players, which is why we always recommend checking out our betting tips on a weekly basis especially our Premier League Prediction, which takes our two experts and pits them against each other in a battle of betting. However, without further ado, let’s get into our Fantasy Football Tips starting with a review of last months picks.
Last Months Performance
| Player | Predicted Points | Actual Points | PPG | | Vicente Guaita | 27-29 | 38 | 4.75 | | Dele Alli | 35-39 | 34 | 4.25 | | Jack Grealish | 33-36 | 45 | 5.62 | | Lys Mousset | 28-32 | 20 | 2.5 | | Danny Ings | 28-30 | 51 | 7.2 |
We also predicted for our players to look away from Lucas Digne, Ederson and Sergio Aguero. In total these three players picked up a total of 37 points which is far too expensive when you consider they cost over 20 million combined.
Three Players you need in January
Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 5.9 Million - Everton
Everton Vs Brighton - 11th January
West Ham Vs Everton - 18th January
Everton Vs Newcastle - 21st January
Few teams have a better run in during the month of January than Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton. You can guarantee changes will be made but one player that has really shone since the Italian’s arrival is Calvert-Lewin. The 22-year-old scored the winner against Burnley and brace against Newcastle before they played Manchester City and Liverpool and in both of those games, DCL looked like he could score. As a manager, Ancelotti has had more experience against sides worse than his and we believe that he could turn Calvert-Lewin into one of the top strikers in England.
Now, because there are only three games in January, one good week could lead to a fantastic January and with Calvert-Lewin he will get three bites of the cherry against some sides who haven’t been fantastic defensively.
Like our casino games, you don’t win if you don’t spin and here we think the Everton striker will get 19 points in the next three-game weeks.
Mane, Salah or Firmino - 9.3 Million and 12.3 Million
When you look at it on paper, Spurs, Man United, Wolves and West Ham sounds like a very difficult month. However, none of these sides are particularly strong defensively. Spurs are conceding a lot of goals under Mourinho, Manchester United will probably keep the score low but Mane and Salah should still get a goal or assist and then Wolves have injury problems at the back and West Ham will still ship goals with David Moyes, oh and did we mention - they have a double gameweek? That’s right and when the best team in the league has a double gameweek, you really should flood your team with their players.
We predict that Mane and Salah will pick up between 24-28 points in January while Firmino we can see picking up between 18-22.
Ayoze Perez - 6 Million - Leicester City
Leicester Vs Southampton - 11th January
Burnley Vs Leicester - 19th January
Leicester Vs West Ham - 22nd January
If anyone has paid close attention to the career of Ayoze Perez so far, they will know that the Spaniard comes good towards the end of the season. Perez was Newcastle’s top scorer in both of their last two seasons despite only scoring twice in their first 30 games in 2017/18 and twice in their first 22 games in 2018/19. He would go on to score six in their last seven in 2017/18 and then another eight in their last ten games in 2018/19. They also play Southampton, who Ayoze Perez has back to back hat-tricks against.
We can see Ayoze Perez picking up 16 points in his three games in January.
Three Players to Avoid in January
Martin Kelly - 4.4 Million - Crystal Palace
Picked by 31.9% of players. Kelly is the perfect 1st pick for the bench. He’s cheap and Palace tend to keep clean sheets. Well after failing to keep clean sheets in their last five games, all of which were against bottom-half sides and the fact they face Arsenal, Man City and Southampton in January would be fine if all but as a lot of teams have difficult opponents in January, it may well be worth taking him out for someone like Craig Cathcart who costs just 4.3, a steal under Nigel Pearson.
Aaron Wan Bissaka - 5.3 Million - Manchester United
It wasn’t long ago that someone said to me, “Why do so many people have Wan-Bissaka? He’s got half the points of George Baldock” Well, it wasn’t quite as PG as that but you get the gist. I didn’t actually believe it myself when I first but it’s actually a fact, despite playing 18 games this season, AWB actually has just 43 points and George Baldock has a staggering 91. I don’t think there’s much more to say other than if you’re in the 14.4% that still has Aaron Wan-Bissaka, what are you doing?
Mason Mount - 6.3 Million - Chelsea
Mason Mount was one of the early picks of the season. However, after picking up just 15 points from his last six games and just 28 in 11 games, our patience has run out with the youngster this season. At 6.3 Million, you can still sell the Chelsea midfielder for a price that is likely more than what you bought him for but when you consider as we’re writing this he is the same price as Jack Grealish and more expensive than the likes of Adama Traore, Ismaila Sarr and Todd Cantwell - can you really afford to waste the money?
