Football Betting Tips - Premier League Analysis - Part Four

We’re over halfway through our Premier League analysis which provides you with our thoughts on the upcoming season and the absolute best football betting tips for each team for the next year. Part 4 of our analysis features Newcastle United, Norwich City, Sheffield United and Southampton and with four potential top half teams yet to come in part 5, this means that the remaining two relegation spots will be taken up by two of these teams and it’s not the two you would expect.

Newcastle United

Whatever happened to the once sleeping giant that was Newcastle United? They’ve lost their two top goal scorers and lost their most established manager since their Champions League days. They start the season against Arsenal at the weekend. With new record signing Joelinton as the Magpies main striker, they’ll be hoping he slots straight into the team and performs meanwhile the politics behind the appointment of Steve Bruce were quite possibly the last thing the Magpies needed and they will hope that this isn’t a sign of things to come.

Squad Analysis

When you look at Newcastle’s starting XI, they definitely have a chance of survival. Their defensive three of Schar, Lascelles and Lejuene was up there with the best in the league under Rafael Benitez and in our opinion will still be under Steve Bruce. We’re unsure about how their wing-play will be this season with Almiron and Saint Maximin likely to play more central roles it will leave their full backs vulnerable.

Newcastle to finish in the top ten - 7/2

Arrivals and Departures

Newcastle fans have suffered more than most when it comes to departures with Ayoze Perez, Mo Diame, Joselu, Salomon Rondon and Rafael Benitez all leaving the club in the last couple of months. However, the Magpies have absolutely obliterated their transfer record with the signing of Joelinton from Hoffenheim alongside some quality players who are still unproven in the Premier League, they’ve taken risks but in reality they could finish anywhere between 10th and 20th.

Where can they improve

Where do we start? If we say Newcastle’s ambition is purely to stay in the Premier League, they could have maybe done with another central midfielder but they’ll stay up in my opinion, they’ve brought in some real attacking quality and if they adapt, they’ll keep Newcastle up fairly easily. However, you’ll see in our prediction whether we think this will actually happen or not.

Predicted Finish

Our Predicted Finish - 15th

21.co.uk’s Online Betting Odds:

Newcastle to be relegated - 2/1

Newcastle to finish bottom - 8/1

Norwich City

It’s absolutely fantastic to see Norwich City back in the Premier League since their relegation back in 2015/16. The Canaries have always been an entertaining team to watch and you could guarantee their games would contain goals. Norwich are unbeaten in all competitions since February 13th and will hope to bring that form into the Premier League this season. They’ve inevitably got a tough start to the campaign but the Canaries will know they will need to start this campaign much better than they started last season where they had just one win in their first six matches.

Squad Analysis

If Teemu Pukki can bring his form into the Premier League then Norwich have a very good chance of staying up. Norwich could do with a little bit more quality in centre back as I don’t believe as a unit, it is strong enough to repel Premier League standard forwards. They have a lot of depth in midfield but again, they’re heavily reliant on players adapting well to the Premier League - which we don’t think they will.

Norwich to be relegated - 10/11

Arrivals and Departures

One thing that Norwich City have done increasingly well is bringing in players, the loans of Patrick Roberts and Ralf Fahrmann will be crucial come the end of the season. Meanwhile, Josip Drmic will provide good back-up to Pukki. One signing that rather confused us was the signing of Sam Byram, we assume that Byram will play further forward for Norwich as Max Aarons was one of the shining stars of Norwich last season and we can’t see him not starting for Norwich next season.

Where can they improve

We think that despite everything Norwich have the best chance of surviving in the Premier League next season out of the three newly-promoted sides. However, we have to say that if the Canaries pick up just one or two injuries their season could take a complete U-Turn and they could end up being the favourites for relegation. They need strength in depth as an attacking unit, If Pukki gets injured, I can’t see any Norwich players scoring more than 5 goals this season, which is a major worry.

Predicted Finish

Our Predicted Finish - 19th.

21.co.uk’s Online Betting Odds:

Norwich City to survive - 10/11

Norwich City to finish bottom - 7/2

Sheffield United

How long has it been Sheffield United fans? 12 years since that heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Wigan, that fantastic save from Paddy Kenny from Emile Heskey’s overhead kick and Danny Webbers chip which just hit the wrong side of the bar. It’s incredible how much the finest margins can impact a team but it’s good to see the Blades back in the Premier League where we would argue they belong.

Squad Analysis

If Sheffield United stay up this season it’s not going to be because of the clear gap in quality they have over the sides around them. As it stands we would argue that the Blades are the favourites to go down purely because of a lack of quality. We believe that the Blades need 4 more first team players and 3 more squad players to have a chance of surviving this campaign.

Sheffield United to be relegated - 2/3

Arrivals and Departures

We’ve been really quite confused regarding the transfers of Sheffield United, on the one hand you could argue that taking the best players of two Championship teams is a good thing, on the other it says your preparing to end up there next season. Meanwhile, the signing of Ravel Morrison is a massive risk that we can’t see paying off and Lys Mousset is nowhere near the quality required to keep the Blades in the Premier League.

Where can they improve

As it stands, it looks like it's going to be a massive season for Billy Sharp as the Sheffield-born 33 year old will be heavily relied upon to score the goals to keep his side up this season. Unless they bring in a proven Premier League goalscorer. Meanwhile, bringing Dean Henderson back is a big coup, as the Man United shot-stopper was instrumental in their fantastic campaign last season.

Predicted Finish

Our Predicted Finish - 20th.

21.co.uk’s Online Betting Odds:

Sheffield United to survive - 6/5

Sheffield United to finish bottom - 11/4

Southampton

Since Claude Puel left the club at the end of the 2016/17 campaign, Southampton have under-performed and narrowly escaped relegation twice in the last two seasons. However, that looks like it might change now with Ralph Hasenhuttl leading the side next season. We’re not expecting the Saints to make a return to European Football anytime soon but they certainly shouldn’t be battling against relegation next season.

Squad Analysis

When it comes to squad depth, Southampton are fairly settled. They don’t have many players that will stamp their authority on a game and completely change things up but they do have an evenly balanced side that could easily win a game by playing attacking or defensive football. However, we do think that Southampton need another winger and they should look to push Ward-Prowse into a central area where he can really control a game.

Southampton to be relegated - 11/2

Arrivals and Departures

Southampton’s forward line is officially stacked with the signings of Danny Ings and Che Adams on full time contracts. Meanwhile, the signing of Moussa Djenepo is one that peaked the interest of many spectators but one we can’t see being an immediate hit in the Premier League. Meanwhile, the Saints have managed to get 20 million for two squad rotation players so when it comes to departures, they have done well.

Where can they improve

Southampton have a number of players who they signed for a decent sum of money, put on high wages then loaned out because the player hasn’t adapted to the Premier League. The likes of Guido Carrillo, Jordy Clasie, Sofiane Boufal and Cedric Soares could have all be sold for decent sums and replaced with players better suited to Southampton.

Predicted Finish

. Our Predicted Finish: 13th

21.co.uk’s Online Betting Odds:

Southampton to finish top 10 - 5/2

Southampton to win the Carabao Cup - 40/1
