Premier League Predictions - Gameweek 10

Written 24th October 2019

Premier League predictions

The return of Premier League football after the international break didn’t disappoint. Leaders Liverpool dropped their first points of the season at Old Trafford, meaning Man City closed the gap to six points after their routine victory at Palace. Leicester and Chelsea kept up the pace in the race for the Champions League places with hard fought victories, taking advantage of results around them. The weekend was rounded out by a masterclass in defensive coaching as Sheffield United beat Arsenal on Monday night.

In terms of last week's tips, it was more of a disaster class. TM managed to edge out MG 2-1 thanks to Villa’s last minute win against Brighton and now leads 4-2-3 (TM Wins - MG Wins - Draws) overall. This week sees a slight change in format. TM & MG are both out of the office at the same time which has sent the office rumour mill into full swing. There has been talk of them spending their week off playing popular casino games on our top online casino - that was only the second most likely reason we could think of. Either way, their absence means that substitutions are required. Replacing TM is ZB, who can be found more regularly giving F1 betting tips, and JG will be stepping in for MG.

Here are our football betting tips for gameweek 10 of the Premier League.

Southampton Vs Leicester City - Friday 25th October (20:00)

Overview

We kickoff the weekend with the return of Friday night football. It feels like Southampton are always involved when there’s a Friday fixture and they will be hoping to perform better than their last one which saw Bournemouth come to St Mary’s and claim the points. It was a result which started a three game losing run and they only ended that streak last time out against Wolves, where they earned a credible draw. Leicester, on the other hand, are flying. They are third in the table after a very tough opening set of fixtures and should definitely be aiming for the Champions League places come the end of the season. If they are to do so, then this is the kind of game they will need to win.

ZB’s Prediction

I can’t see Leicester losing this one. In fact, I’m backing them to win. Southampton have scored once in all their home games so far, so I’m adding BTTS to my prediction as well.

ZB’s Bet

Leicester To Win & BTTS - 3/1

JG’s Prediction

Brendan Rodgers has got his Leicester City side playing some brilliant stuff, and as of yet there are no players performing poorly enough to feature in his ‘envelope’. The Foxes to win to nil in my humble opinion.

JG’s Bet

Leicester City Win To Zero - 57/20

Manchester City Vs Aston Villa - Saturday 26th October (12:30)

Overview

Man City cut the gap to leaders Liverpool last weekend with a solid win at Crystal Palace. They will be hoping to cut the gap further, with Liverpool playing Spurs, but they need to make sure they do their job against Aston Villa in the early kickoff on Saturday. Villa will be buoyed by their last minute win against Brighton which leaves them in a decent position to stay up come the end of the season. They will view this game as an opportunity for points, rather than getting them being a necessity.

JG’s Prediction

After TM’s awful shout a few weeks back that Watford were going to go to the Etihad and win, I’m going to be a lot safer here. That being said, Villa have looked strong going forward, so I’m going to go for their target man Wesley to score anytime. I do still expect Man City to win comfortably though.

JG’s Bet

Wesley To Score Anytime - 4/1

ZB’s Prediction

City might have lost their last home game against Wolves, but you’d be bold to back any team to come to the Etihad and win. Given the Citizens defensive crisis I can see this game being an open affair with goals early on. Two or more in the first 30 minutes is my pick.

ZB’s Bet

Over 1.25 goals in the first 30 minutes - 23/20

Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Everton - Saturday 26th October (15:00)

Overview

Aside from their excellent win against Spurs before the international break, Brighton have had a tough time of it recently and their home form will be of concern. Draws against West Ham and Burnley, alongside a defeat to Southampton, mean the Amex hasn’t been the fortress it was last season. They will be hoping to follow up that home victory against Tottenham with another against Everton, but the Toffees achieved a much needed win themselves last time out to relieve some of the pressure on Silva. They will also be looking to build some momentum.

ZB’s Prediction

Everton have only scored one goal in their four away games so far this season. I can see them failing to find the net at the Amex also, which would it make it back-to back clean sheets at home for Brighton.

ZB’s Bet

Brighton Clean Sheet - 37/20

JG’s Prediction

This is a really tough game to call I think, as I never really know what to expect from both sides week on week. Brighton will have to pick themselves up off the floor after that last minute defeat, while Everton look to build on a win after a really shaky start. I’m sitting on the fence.

JG’s Bet

Draw - 9/4

Watford Vs Bournemouth - Saturday 26th October (15:00)

Overview

Watford remain the only side without a win this season, but that wasn’t before some VAR controversy in their draw at Tottenham (insert MG comment here usually!). They will see this as a good chance to get the ball rolling against a Bournemouth side that never seems to be able to string consistent results together. The Cherries achieved back to back victories in early September, but haven’t won in three Premier League games since.

JG’s Prediction

Some might say that Bournemouth never being able to put a run of form together is part of a wider conspiracy, but who really knows? On the pitch, Watford’s battling effort at Spurs really came at a bad time for the Cherries, but I do think they’ll win this one.

JG’s Bet

Bournemouth To Win & BTTS - 4/1

ZB’s Prediction

Bournemouth won the corresponding fixture last season 4-0. Given Watford’s current struggles I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen again. Bournemouth to win to nil was 19/4, but I’ve gone all in.

ZB’s Bet

Watford 0-4 Bournemouth FT - 63/1

West Ham Vs Sheffield United - Saturday 26th October (15:00)

Overview

Seven games unbeaten for West Ham, after their opening day hammering by Man City, led to some murmurings of Champions League football. Back to back defeats against Crystal Palace and Everton have since all but ended that talk, but with Sheffield United and Newcastle at home being their next two fixtures they will be hoping to turn that around. The Blades won’t let them have it all their own way though. They performed well in their victory over Arsenal and will fancy their chances of taking something from the London Stadium.

ZB’s Prediction

I can’t see Sheffield United going down this season. They seem solid defensively, so even when things go against them, they always have a chance. With one goal or less in each of their last three premier league games, I can see their being under 1.5 here.

ZB’s Bet

Under 1.5 Total Goals - 14/5

JG’s Prediction

Sheffield United have the joint best defence in the Premier League alongside Liverpool, having conceded only 7 goals. I agree with ZB that this game doesn’t scream ‘goals’ and with the Blades’ last away game ending 0-0 I’m going for a repeat.

JG’s Bet

Exact Score 0-0 - 17/2

Burnley Vs Chelsea - Saturday 26th October (17:30)

Overview

The late game sees Chelsea face a tricky trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley. The Blues have made a good start to the season under Lampard considering their transfer ban and the team’s relative lack of experience. Currently on a run of three league wins on the bounce, they will see this as a good chance to make that four, but it won’t be easy. Burnley are beginning to make Turf Moor a fortress again this season and only Liverpool have managed to take anything away from their game here. Southampton, Norwich and Everton have all left pointless and without a goal to their name.

JG’s Prediction

Another tough one to call, Burnley are fantastic at home and Chelsea will always be a threat on the road. Considering Chelsea may have tired legs from their trip to Ajax in the Champions League, I’m actually going to go for a home win.

JG’s Bet

Burnley To Win - 33/10

ZB’s Prediction

I’ve been impressed by both these teams so far this season and could see this game going either way. Chelsea have scored three or more goals in their last three premier league away days, but they’ve also conceded in those games as well. I can see the spoils being shared with goals.

ZB’s Bet

Draw With Goals - 33/10

Newcastle United Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers - Sunday 27th October (14:00)

Overview

Kicking off a healthy helping of Sunday action this week is an intriguing tie on Tyneside. The Magpies dropped back into the relegation zone last weekend, but can take heart from their performance at Stamford Bridge where they were in the game for long periods. They will need to start picking up results soon however, and they will view this game as an opportunity. Wolves, on the other hand, have responded well to their poor start. They are unbeaten in four league games, but will be disappointed with the draw against Southampton last time out. They head into this game on the back of a trip to Slovakia on Thursday. Their last fixture following a Europa League away day saw them win against Man City at the Etihad, so you expect they will be unphased.

ZB’s Prediction

I can see this being a tight game. The four Premier League games at St. James’ Park have seen an average of a goal a game and Newcastle have set up in most games to contain the opposition. I expect Wolves to edge it come 90 minutes, with the sides drawing at halftime.

ZB’s Bet

Half Time/Full Time = X/2 - 9/2

JG’s Prediction

Wolves scored a 94th minute winner on Tyneside last season through a header by Matt Doherty, and Willy Boly equalised in the reverse fixture with a header too. With Jimenez, Joelinton and Andy Carroll potentially all on the pitch, I’ll go for the first goal being a header.

JG’s Bet

First Goal Method Of Scoring: Header - 4/1

Arsenal Vs Crystal Palace - Sunday 27th October (16:30)

Overview

Arsenal, like Wolves, are also on Europa League duty on Thursday, meaning that they will also have to contend with fatigue before their game this weekend. They looked laboured on Monday night in defeat at Sheffield United, so will be fully stretched at the end of this spell of three games within seven days. Crystal Palace will have had a full week off by the time this game comes around. They may have lost to Man City last time out, but they can be happy with their season so far. The Eagles are currently in sixth and will move above the Gunners with victory.

JG’s Prediction

This is the type of game that could well descend into madness. We know that Crystal Palace are well capable of raising their game against the big sides and quite simply, Arsenal can’t defend. I’m going to go for Over 4.5 Goals in this one.

JG’s Bet

Over 4.5 Goals - 29/10

ZB’s Prediction

I think Crystal Palace are better on the road than at Selhurst Park. The extra rest could be telling against this fragile Arsenal defence, with Palace more than capable of causing damage on the counter attack. I think they will get something at the Emirates.

ZB’s Bet

Draw or Palace Win - 17/10

Liverpool Vs Tottenham Hotspur - Sunday 27th October (16:30)

Overview

The penultimate game of this week's preview is arguably the biggest, as Liverpool host Spurs. The Reds dropped their first points of the season last time out at Old Trafford. Given the performance, they can probably consider themselves slightly fortunate to have salvaged a point. They will be hoping to get back to winning ways against another of the ‘big 6’ clubs - although we might need to find another name for them if their current form continues. Tottenham’s form appears to have nosedived since their humiliation by Bayern Munich. They scraped a draw at home to basement boys Watford - a result which leaves Pochettino under pressure.

ZB’s Prediction

Liverpool showed an inability to deal with the pressure of having a big lead in the table at Old Trafford. It was symptomatic of their four draws in January and February that allowed City back into the title race last season, so I will be interested to see how they respond here. Tottenham are probably the perfect opponents though, as they should come out and attack the Reds. I can see there being goals, over 3.5 in fact.

ZB’s Bet

Over 3.5 Total Goals - 5/4

JG’s Prediction

Both sides will have been massively disappointed with their respective 1-1 draws in the Premier League last week and will be looking to put things right. Tottenham really need to show something, and after grabbing two goals in the Champions League I’m backing Harry Kane to score first, which could well be from the penalty spot at Anfield yet again.

JG’s Bet

Harry Kane To Score First - 5/1

Norwich City Vs Manchester United - Sunday 27th October (16:30)

Overview

Rounding off the preview are two teams in desperate need of three points. Norwich avoided a fourth successive loss and achieved a first clean sheet of the season against Bournemouth, but the goals from earlier in the season seem to have dried up which has coincided with Pukki’s drop in form. They will hope they can take inspiration from their impressive home win against Man City earlier in the season into the match against their Manchester rivals. United are also without a win in four and are languishing at fourteenth in the table. A trip to Belgrade on Thursday followed by a trip to Norwich will ensure there is a lot of miles on the players legs - it could be a telling factor.

JG’s Prediction

Many pundits suggest that the Pukki party is over but I, for one, will never give up hope. The Finnish striker may be 29 but he certainly isn’t finished yet, and I predict that he’ll give a ropey Man United defence the run around on Sunday. The Canaries main striker is 27/20 to score anytime at Carrow Road.

JG’s Bet

Teemu Pukki To Score Anytime - 27/20

ZB’s Prediction

I expected United to be poor this season. Their team on paper is a far cry from the glory days of Ferguson and I can see it being a while until they return to the summit of English football, if at all. I expect Norwich to rise to the occasion, and like in their home games against Newcastle, Chelsea and City, find the net on multiple occasions.

ZB’s Bet

Over 1.5 Goals for Norwich - 39/20
