Premier League Predictions - Week 13

West Ham Vs Tottenham - Saturday 23rd November (12:30)

Overview

We thought we had this game figured out until Daniel Levy decided to throw a massive curveball our way with the appointment of Jose Mourinho who actually happens to have a fantastic record against the Hammers where he has picked up 36 points in 16 games against their opponents on Saturday. Will Mourinho have an instant impact at Spurs or can Pellegrini’s men spoil the party?

TM‘s Prediction

Some may be shocked that a manager who made the Champions League final last season could be sacked and replaced unceremoniously, but the precedent was set with Claudio Ranieri at Leicester a few years ago. Tottenham haven’t won a league game in five, West Ham haven’t won a league game in six. A draw, in my book.

Draw - 3/1

MG’s Prediction

Jose is back! I personally I couldn’t be happier. I feel sorry for Poch but when Jose Mourinho’s available and willing to sign on the dotted line, any manager would be under pressure. Mourinho has a great record against not just Manuel Pellegrini but West Ham as a whole. Spurs will be up for this and that’ll show when Spurs score early and win the game.

Half Time/Full Time - Spurs -

Arsenal Vs Southampton - Saturday 23rd November (15:00)

Overview

In regards to form, Southampton are the out of form team in the Premier League but thankfully for them, Arsenal are not doing that much better as they’ve only won two games in that time, a 1-0 win over Bournemouth and a 3-2 win at home to Aston Villa. This is the start of a decent run in the season for Arsenal as they play six of the bottom ten in seven games meaning if there was ever a run of fixtures Unai Emery would want to save his job, you would imagine it would be their upcoming run.

MG’s Prediction The Saints tend to play fairly well against Arsenal despite the fact in my opinion, they’re one of the worst sides in the league as it stands. Unai Emery needs a win here and I think his side will scrape through, I’m not confident to bet for an Arsenal 2-1 win at 31/4. However, the principal is there with this bet.

Arsenal to win and over 2.5 goals - Evens

TM‘s Prediction

With Pochettino being binned off by Tottenham, there are whispers that Unai Emery could be the next on the chopping block. The fact that Southampton have proven to be a thorn in Arsenal’s side on many an occasion since their return to the Premier League in 2012, could see those whispers become a cacophony. I think Southampton will take at least a point.

Double Chance: Draw or Southampton - 8/5

Bournemouth Vs Wolves - Saturday 23rd November (15:00)

Overview

After starting strong against Newcastle, Bournemouth really didn’t do enough to put the Magpies to the sword. Then again, it is clear to see why they’ve only scored 2 goals in five games meanwhile, Wolves are unbeaten since September a run which included four draws, they also have a 75% rate of Both Teams To Score. However, considering Bournemouth’s recent run in-front of goal, Both Teams to Score might not seem too likely here.

TM‘s Prediction

I got it badly wrong by predicting Bournemouth to thrive up at Newcastle, but I still think they’re resilient enough at home to frustrate Wolves. The away side will give it a go, but they won’t overload in pressing for a late win, so I can see this finishing level.

Draw - 47/20

MG’s Prediction

I do agree that this tie could finish level. However, Bournemouth looked very ordinary for 70 minutes against Newcastle and no disrespect to the Magpies, Wolves will put Bournemouth to the sword if they don’t show up this weekend. Both Teams to Score is 10/13 so i’m steering well clear of that. Raul Jimenez to score anytime - 17/10

Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Leicester City - Saturday 23rd November (15:00)

Overview

Both of these sides are performing above expectations in the league this season with Leicester flying high in 2nd and Brighton are comfortably mid-table. Leicester will be the comfortable favourites here as they haven’t conceded in the last three games but have scored a whopping 13 goals, Manchester United and Liverpool are the only sides who have taken all three points off Leicester City this season, so the Foxes will be confident about their chances.

MG’s Prediction

In my opinion, Brighton aren’t as good as their position suggests. They were blown away by Manchester United but their home form is fairly decent and is the reason they’re not fighting relegation right now. I think this will be a tight contest, Leicester will win but I think Brighton might score. My gut says to expect a 3-1 win at 15/1, however...

Brighton 1-2 Leicester City - 15/2

TM‘s Prediction

Brighton’s general ability to score goals, even when they lose matches, has impressed me. I can see them starting brightly, but with the quality, momentum, self-belief, and clinical ability that Leicester boast, it’ll only be a matter of time until the Foxes break through and claim three points.

Leicester to Win - Evens

Crystal Palace Vs Liverpool - Saturday 23rd November (15:00)

Overview

Before the International Break, Liverpool confidently dispatched of Manchester City. Meanwhile, Palace made it four games without a win as they were beaten by Chelsea who handled Palace with relative ease, so statistically, you would believe that Liverpool shouldn’t have any problem disposing of their opposition here. However, stranger things have happened.

TM‘s Prediction

Crystal Palace are normally a flamboyant and skillful side capable of providing a shock or two, but at the moment they look a little disjointed. Liverpool are doing as much as they need to for three points at the moment, without trying to break any scoring records or tire themselves out. I think they may take a different approach here though, in order to let their title rivals know they’ve still firmly got their eyes on the prize.

Over 3.5 Goals - 17/10

MG’s Prediction

At Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace are capable of causing an upset. However, with Mo Salah and Andrew Robertson out, I’m not confident there will be over 3.5 goals. Liverpool will definitely score but they won’t blow Palace away.

Liverpool to score 2 goals - 33/10

Everton Vs Norwich City - Saturday 23rd November (15:00)

Overview

Everton were desperate for the win last time out at St Mary’s and they got the job done. Meanwhile, Norwich haven’t gotten the job done in seven weeks and are tied at the bottom of the form table with Southampton. Before week 12, it looked like that Marco Silva could well be the next manager sacked, if all goes his way this weekend Everton could be in the top half.

MG’s Prediction

If i know TM , he’ll go for his usual Norwich win here, which always amuses me. Right now, Norwich couldn’t win an away Premier League game if their club status depended on it. Meanwhile, Everton have improved, they haven’t been good but they’ve improved.

Everton to score in both halves - 21/20

TM‘s Prediction

Despite the pressure on their manager, Marco Silva, Everton have done enough to begin to move in a positive direction. That said, I just know as soon as I stop predicting Norwich to win a game, they’ll do it. Apologies for the kiss of death, Canaries fans, but I’m backing you to turn the thermostat up on the Goodison hot seat.

Norwich to Win - 27/4

Watford Vs Burnley - Saturday 23rd November (15:00)

Overview

After their win, last time around Watford aren’t in the worst position in the world despite failing to win in 11 they find themselves just 3 points behind Aston Villa in 17th and as Burnley have the second-worst away record in the league, they may be level on points with the Villians before their game on Monday against Newcastle.

TM‘s Prediction

For a side that got thumped 8-0 earlier in the season, Watford are currently doing an impressive job on the defensive front, largely due to Quique Sanchez Flores’ decision to switch to five at the back. Burnley aren’t great away from home, so aren’t massively likely to create too much going forward, so I can see this playing out to a draw.

Draw - 47/20

MG’s Prediction

Burnley are better than Watford in my opinion. However, Sean Dyches men are always poor away from home. Watford picked up their first win before the international break but I think they might find a bit too much resistance from Burnley.

Draw with Goals 16/5

Man City Vs Chelsea - Saturday 23rd November (17:30)

Overview

The game of the weekend, without a doubt. Chelsea have a fantastic away record and Manchester City will be fragile after being defeated by Liverpool last time around and if the Citizens fail to win here, the gap between the two sides could be as large as 12 points which although we will never count Manchester City out, could be too much to come back from. Either way, this time around we’re in for a spectacle as Frank Lampard returns to his old side.

MG’s Prediction

This could be absolutely anything, there will be goals on both ends but considering we have extended markets for this particular fixture, I feel like I have to choose one of them, so I’ll go with a KDB bet against his old side.

Kevin De Bruyne to get an assist - 7/5

TM‘s Prediction

Manchester City needed to beat Liverpool to still be fully in the title race, but they certainly can’t afford to give up any more ground, particularly when Leicester and Chelsea are above them. Chelsea’s youthful team has been impressive, but City will want a big win to make a statement. I’m sensing goals.

Over 3.5 Goals - 21/20

Sheffield United Vs Manchester United - Sunday 24th November (16:30)

Overview

Despite their shortcomings so far this season, Manchester United find themselves in 7th place, two points behind this seasons surprise package - Sheffield United. Games involving the Blades have contained just 22 goals, four less than Crystal Palace and six less than Manchester United, so if you’re looking for Goals on Sunday, you won’t be tuning in at 16:30.

TM‘s Prediction

Sheffield United are unlucky not to be in the top four hunt, let alone occupying the best of the rest, and when they lose it’s only by a single goal. Manchester United have got some crucial wins, but are still easily susceptible to dropping into the bottom half of the table. They’ve lost at Newcastle and Bournemouth this season, and you’d have to say Sheffield United are currently a more exciting and dangerous team than those, so there’s a good reason in my eyes this match has been selected for TV coverage.

Sheffield United to Win - 51/20

MG’s Prediction

This is another fixture that could go either way. Both sides don’t tend to score too many goals but Sheffield United’s defence could be the telling factor. Either way, my bet still stands.

1 Goal in the first half - 23/20

Aston Villa Vs Newcastle United - Monday 25th November (20:00)

Overview

Newcastle are a prime example of how tight the Premier League table is as it stands, two games ago they were 17th just one point ahead of the drop zone. Now, they’re up to 13th and a win today could send him 6th depending on results elsewhere. However, Villa won’t go down without a fight but will need to play better than they did against Wolves to pick up a result against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle if they continue their current run of form.

MG’s Prediction

One of the most humiliating moments of Steve Bruce’s career was having a cabbage thrown off him at Villa, so if there was ever a game I expect Newcastle to be energetic, it’s this one. If you’re looking for at a Villa win John McGinn to score anytime is a blessing at 12/5. However, when you look at both of these sides and see the first method of scoring bets, one stands out.

First Goal Method of Scoring: Header - 15/4

TM‘s Prediction

To paraphrase/debase a Green Day lyric, Newcastle woke up when September ended. Ten points from 15 available has been important for the Magpies, who have now put some real distance between themselves and the drop zone. Having seen two wins in a row followed by three losses, Aston Villa desperately need a win. I can see them getting one here, largely down to home advantage, but it will be tight.
