Premier League Predictions - Week Two

Premier League Predictions - Week Two

Thanks to an assist from VAR the first week of the Premier League was nothing short of action-packed and controversial. However, here at we’ll be giving you our football betting predictions and top football betting tips for the upcoming season. We’ll even end each article with an accumulator of the week, picked from our online betting markets and sports odds where we’ll pick one game from the Premier League, Championship and Leagues 1&2 to create a 4-fold accumulator.

We’re in the second week of the Premier League and our predictions in Premier League betting is more difficult than ever. Especially Manchester City Vs Tottenham Hotspur which is sure to be an absolute classic before a Super Sunday of Chelsea Vs Leicester and Sheffield United Vs Crystal Palace which could prove to be a relegation 6-pointer.

For now though, our two writers will stick to predicting this weeks' games, starting with Arsenal Vs Burnley.

Arsenal Vs Burnley - Saturday August 17, 12:30

Both of these sides picked up good wins last week with Burnley trashing Southampton 3-0 and Arsenal picking up a comfortable 1-0 victory at St James’ Park on Sunday. The gap between these two sides is arguably smaller than ever, especially considering Arsenal have won the last 10 meetings between the two clubs with an aggregate scoreline of 24-5. So history favors the Gunners but looking at these clubs at the weekend, you would have struggled to see which club was top 6 and which were relegation candidates. Although, Arsenal have always been significantly better at home than away.

MG’s Prediction

If you’ve ever followed Arsenal, you’ll know there’s a clear BTTS agenda with the Gunners, they never do things the easy way and their back-line was troubled by a Newcastle side who played very poorly at the weekend. Burnley are a capable side on their day but I think Sean Dyche’s men will be outclassed in this weeks first game.

**MG’s bet: Arsenal to win & Both Teams to Score - 17/10**

TM's Prediction

I predicted low-scoring affairs for both of these sides last time, so I’ll take one out of two. Arsenal should get a few players back for this one, but Burnley could still spring a trap and nick a point.

TM's bet: Back a draw at 9/2

Aston Villa Vs Bournemouth - Saturday August 17, 15:00

Both sides will have left gameweek one a little disappointed as Bournemouth looked fairly toothless against newly promoted Sheffield United and Aston Villa conceded 3 goals in 17 minutes to squander a 1-0 lead away to Spurs. Villa looked fantastic in the first half but seemed to run out of steam and ideas in the second half, specifically when Wesley went off the pitch. Both sides may already see this game as a must not lose which could see two entertaining sides be more restrictive on Saturday.

TM's Prediction

Running the risk of placing a pundit’s curse on the match, I can only see goals in this one. Villa looked lively against Tottenham last week, and I think they’ll edge it as Premier League football returns to Villa Park.

**TM's bet: Villa to win and BTTS - 3/1**

MG’s Prediction

I was really surprised at how toothless Bournemouth looked against Sheffield United meanwhile Villa were fairly impressive for 60 minutes against Tottenham. I think both sides will have suffered after conceding late goals last time out and it will be a conservative game.

MG’s bet: Draw with goals - 3/1.

Brighton Vs West Ham - Saturday August 17, 15:00

Did anybody see Brighton’s 3-0 demolition at Vicarage Road coming? (If yes, be sure to send us your predictions for the next Euromillions) it was absolutely incredible from Graham Potter’s side who defied the odds and started the season off fantastically, they play a West Ham side who, realistically the less said about their defeat to Manchester City last weekend the better. West Ham are one of the only sides that Brighton have a positive record over and the Hammers actually haven’t beaten the Seagulls in the Premier League.

MG’s Prediction

When I watched Brighton on Saturday I was in disbelief, it was like a side possessed. Meanwhile, West Ham looked okay against Manchester City until they went two down and crumbled. I think Brighton might make this back to back wins which is something I would not have thought this time last week.

**MG’s bet: Brighton to win 1-0 - 33/4**

TM's Prediction

I backed Brighton to lose to Watford last weekend, and they sprung a huge surprise, meaning they’re suddenly favourites for this one. I think it will be the Hammers’ turn to be happy this week however.

TM's bet: West Ham to win away - 19/10

Everton Vs Watford - Saturday August 17, 15:00

Neither of these sides looked impressive in the first game of the season, which means that they should both look to come out of the blocks fighting here. The last two games at Goodison Park have finished 3-2 and 2-2 which means that there should be goals. Watford were embarrassed by Brighton and we can’t imagine that Marco Silva was particularly impressed with his side against Crystal Palace either.

TM's Prediction

Predicting Watford to win last week was a blunder, but I did back Brighton to score at least, given Watford’s defensive frailties. Both of these sides have issues at the back, and will leave themselves open as they battle for a win. I can see it being a draw, with goals.

**TM's bet: Exact Score 2-2 - 12/1**

MG’s Prediction

No disrespect to the Seagulls but if a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at home doesn’t give you the reality check you needed at the start of the season, we’re not quite sure what will. Watford and Everton both have a point to prove and realistically, neither side are particularly strong defensively. Goals galore.

MG’s bet: Over 4.5 goals - 9/2

Norwich City Vs Newcastle United - Saturday August 17, 15:00

Neither of these sides had a particularly easy start but despite losing heavily, Norwich looked like a Premier League standard side. Their only issue is their defence, they signed Newcastle’s fourth choice centre-back when they were in the Championship and are playing him in the Premier League. Naturally, Grant Hanley isn’t first choice at Norwich either but after Friday Night, he can’t be relishing his old side traveling to Carrow Road. Meanwhile, Newcastle were awful in the second half against Arsenal but started brightly we wonder which Newcastle will turn up this weekend.

MG’s Prediction

I was really impressed by Norwich on Friday night with some slightly better finishing they could have scored 3 or 4 against Liverpool meanwhile Newcastle had 1 or 2 good chances against Arsenal but rarely threatened after 40 minutes. I think Teemu Pukki might be the difference here.

**MG’s bet: Norwich to win 2-0 - 21/2**

TM's Prediction

I was very close with my Norwich prediction last week, and my Newcastle one came off. Norwich have goals, Newcastle look a little bit rudderless. Norwich to win to nil is likely in my opinion, I’ll say by a couple of goals.

TM's bet: Exact score; Norwich 2-0 Newcastle - 21/2

Southampton Vs Liverpool - Saturday August 17, 15:00

Liverpool had possibly the best start they could have asked for against Norwich as they picked up a dominant win against a side who looked very capable of troubling any side this season. Meanwhile, Ralph Hasenhüttl was very likely furious following his sides 3-0 defeat to Burnley on the opening day. Liverpool have won the last four meetings between the sides, three of those were comfortable victories with clean sheets.

TM's Prediction

Bless Southampton for trying, but even early on it feels as if they may struggle to improve on last season’s status as relegation candidates. Liverpool are incredibly happy with their football, will get and take chances, but are also responsible at the back.

**TM's bet: Liverpool to win to nil - 5/4**

MG’s Prediction

It’s very likely, you’ll look at my prediction and think I’m going insane. All statistics state that Liverpool should have no trouble disposing of Southampton at St Mary’s. However, Southampton lost 5 away games under Ralph Hasenhüttl last season, each time they either scored first or won their next home game which includes wins against Arsenal and Tottenham. So the Austrian will definitely have his side ready prepared and with Liverpool’s Super Cup tie on Wednesday, I think Liverpool will start off quite leggy.

MG’s bet: Che Adams to score first - 10/1

Manchester City Vs Tottenham Hotspur - Saturday August 17, 17:30

Manchester City are arguably one of the best Premier League sides in history with Jose Mourinho recently stating that their “B Team” could challenge for the title. Meanwhile, Spurs struggled to break down an Aston Villa side in the first half of the opening day but when Christian Eriksen came off the bench, they carved them open at will. In a game with so many quality players, it may take a touch of class from one player to be the difference.

**MG’s bet: Draw with goals - 19/4**

TM's Prediction

Last season threw up some exciting games between these two, and with Tottenham actually signing players this year, they’ll be out to try and prove they can seriously challenge for the title. Manchester City are incredibly talented though, and I think there will be goals.

TM's bet: Over 4.5 goals - 29/10

Sheffield United Vs Crystal Palace - Sunday August 18, 14:00

Both these sides managed to take a decent point against their opposition in Gameweek One as Sheffield United scored late to take a point away from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace managed to hold Everton to a 0-0 but will be slightly disappointed they didn’t come away with 3 points after having a man advantage for the last 15 minutes. Positive signs for both these teams but the question is which one can push forward in Gameweek Two.

TM's Prediction

Sheffield United surprised a few people with their point at Bournemouth, while Palace surprised a few people by plonking Zaha on the bench. The scoreline is tough to call, but this one has goals for both sides in my opinion.

**TM's bet: Sheffield United Vs Palace - Both Teams to Score - 21/20**

MG’s Prediction

I actually thought until Wilfred Zaha came on, Palace we poor against Everton and stayed in because the Toffees were quite toothless. Meanwhile, Billy Sharp’s goal against Bournemouth will have ensured that Bramall Lane will be bouncing with anticipation ahead of what in my opinion will be their first win of the season.

MG’s bet: Sheffield United 1-0 Crystal Palace - 6/1

Chelsea Vs Leicester City - Sunday August 18, 16:30

MG’s Prediction

If you told me that one game into the Premier League season, Chelsea would be in a position where Frank Lampard realistically can’t afford to lose. I wouldn’t have believed you. Meanwhile, Leicester will be better suited to this game than they were Wolves at home. I think this will be a close one but I fancy The Foxes to edge it.

**MG’s bet: Leicester to Win 2-1 - 15/1**

TM's Prediction

Sometimes I like to go against MG just to be contrary, but here it’s difficult to argue against a Leicester win. Chelsea will be tired from their lengthy Super Cup exploits, so I’m backing the Foxes to edge an away victory here.

TM's bet: Leicester to win - 4/1

Wolves Vs Manchester United - Monday August 19, 20:00

Manchester United could not have asked for a better opening weekend. A fantastic 4-0 win over Chelsea despite a very even first half of football has given fans of the Red Devils a new found confidence. Wolves on the other hand, won’t be physically affected by their midweek game against Pyunik so It looks like this will be one of the ties of the weekend with two teams in confidence going head to head.

TM's Prediction

Manchester United shocked me with their 4-0 win over Chelsea, while I’d also backed Wolves to win against Leicester. This will be a cagey contest, but I think Wolves can really trouble the Red Devils.

**TM's bet: Wolves to Win 12/5**

MG’s Prediction

By the way these two sides play, I actually think this game will be the best game to watch of the weekend. I think there will be plenty of chances and I think last season, Wolves sneak this one 2-1. However, this season it’s a different story.

MG’s bet: Wolves 1-1 Manchester United - 5/1
