Premier League Predictions - Week 24

Last week saw one of the highest-scoring Premier League Predictions as MG took a 6-4 victory against TM‘s unbeaten stand-in - JG. This means that MG now has a lead of 14-9 in our predictions despite high scoring wins by his opposition every single week and as our rule of all bets must be over evens, when it comes to Premier League Tips consistent wins of 3/1 aren’t to be sniffed at. Of course, this is all leading up to the massive Euro 2020 event where the winner will be predicting every single match during the tournament. So be sure to check out our Euro 2020 tips ahead of the big event. Before that, we’ve still got 13 rounds of Premier League action so let’s get started with Aston Villa Vs Watford.

Aston Villa Vs Watford - Tuesday 21st January (19:30)

Overview

Two gameweeks ago, Watford overtook Aston Villa and dropped into the relegation zone. Last week they picked up a half-decent draw at the Amex Stadium against fellow battlers Brighton where the crucial thing was that they didn’t lose. Meanwhile, Watford matched Spurs in a 0-0 draw at Vicarage Road, which was their second clean sheet in a row and their eighth of the season. Watford have the joint-worst attacking stats in the league while Villa have the second-worst defence, something has to give.

MG’s Prediction

Watford are a side in-form and I can honestly see them picking up another win here. Pepe Reina demonstrated that he hasn’t missed a step since leaving the Premier League and will need to be in fine form to prevent a Watford win here, it’ll be narrow but I think they’ll win by 2.

Watford to win 2-0 - 12/1

TM’s Prediction

Aston Villa’s draw at Brighton was well-earned in the end, but if Brighton had been more ruthless early on then the game would have been put to bed. Watford are more likely to be ruthless, and are enjoying their football, so I fancy them to edge it.

Watford to win - 29/20

Bournemouth Vs Brighton - Tuesday 21st January (19:30)

Overview

One win in twelve means that Bournemouth are on the worst run that they’ve managed since Eddie Howe brought them into the Premier League. Midweek they face Brighton who have also picked up just one win in their last nine so realistically both sides need a win in this game. Eddie Howe is now the bookies favourite to be sacked, so this game could be his last stand.

TM’s Prediction

It’s hard to say exactly what has gone so badly wrong at Bournemouth, but the warning signs have been there the past couple of seasons where they’ve been reliant on a solid first half of the season. Brighton will view them as fodder at the moment, and I can see another away win.

Brighton to win - 29/20

MG’s Prediction

If my thinking is correct, this will be absolutely tragic game as Brighton will have all the possession and Bournemouth will just try to hit them on the break, but I don’t think the Cherries will lose this one, I don’t exactly know why but it’s just a gut feeling that I’m going to go for.

Draw - 49/20

Crystal Palace Vs Southampton - Tuesday 21st January (19:30)

Overview

Since their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle, Crystal Palace are unbeaten in five including their dramatic draw against Manchester City at the weekend. However, Southampton’s weekend was equally as dramatic as they dropped a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 against a spirited Wolves side which meant their first defeat in six games. This perhaps isn’t a game where you expect goals but this will truly be an intriguing contest.

MG’s Prediction

Either Guaita or McCarthy are keeping a clean sheet here. I’m not entirely sure which one as Danny Ings is in fine form but Crystal Palace have the home advantage and with both sides looking to hit on the counter Palace may be forced to have more possession than they’d like which will open gaps for the Saints to steal a win.

Southampton to win 1-0 - 7/1

TM’s Prediction

Southampton did incredibly well to go 2-0 up on Wolves, before their bizarre capitulation. Crystal Palace had a spirited performance in their draw with Manchester City, so I can see this being a lively game with a few goals.

Over 2.5 Goals - 23/20

Everton vs Newcastle - Tuesday 21st January (19:30)

Overview

Newcastle will come into this game brimming with confidence after beating Chelsea in dramatic fashion one Saturday evening. We can imagine that this game will go in a similar fashion as Everton will dominate possession and Newcastle will look to counter-attack with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin. Meanwhile, Dom Calvert-Lewin grabbed yet another goal for Everton, and although Richarlison is still out we can expect a much more attacking Everton side here.

TM’s Prediction

Everton are learning from their cross-town rivals and playing patient football, while Newcastle are beginning to tighten up defensively despite their injury problems. I think the Toffees will edge this, but it’ll be low-scoring.

Everton win and Under 2.5 Goals - 27/10

MG’s Prediction

Newcastle strangely deserved their win against Chelsea but Everton definitely deserved their win against the Magpies at St James’. I think Everton will dominate and Newcastle cause problems but fail to hit the back of the net.

Everton to win to zero - 5/4

Sheffield United Vs Manchester City - Tuesday 21st January (19:30)

Overview

Sheffield United are incredibly tough to beat in the modern-day game. Meanwhile, Manchester City just keep letting themselves down defensively and it doesn’t seem like they’re willing to purchase anyone to plug the gaps. So goals scored and goals conceded are only going to continue rising until Aymeric Laporte returns from injury. City won the game at the Etihad 2-0, but we could see a much more competitive game this time out.

MG’s Prediction

It will be a tight game as mentioned above but I think City will still be easy winners. I think they’ll assume a 2-0 lead like they managed at home before the Blades grab a late goal to cause a bit of panic.

Correct Score: 1-2 - 13/2

TM’s Prediction

This is quite a difficult one to call, as you’d expect Manchester City to run riot as usual, but Sheffield United can be a very difficult side to break down. They’re generally better away from home, but I can see them getting a goal, albeit in vain.

Man City to win & btts - 29/20

Chelsea Vs Arsenal - Tuesday 21st January (20:15)

Overview

We’re not sure who needs this win more. Arsenal are somehow still in with a chance of finishing in a Europa League position despite only winning six games so far this season. Meanwhile, Chelsea are beginning to look vulnerable but still have a handy 5 point gap between them and Manchester United. However, after failing to beat Newcastle, Brighton and Bournemouth in little over a month, Frank Lampard could be starting to feel the pressure.

TM’s Prediction

Another side generally better away from home, Chelsea have suffered some ‘shock’ defeats to several sides below them in the table. Arsenal may well have thrown the game away last time they met, but I can see them edging it this time.

Arsenal to Win - 7/2

MG’s Prediction

On paper, this is definitely the match of the day but I can see this one being a snoozefest midfield battle where both sides have a combined total of 4 shots in the first half. I guessed correctly with under 2.5 goals in Chelsea’s last encounter but I think there will be three goals in this game and that it will finish 2-1 to one of these sides.

Exact Goals - 3 - 53/20

Leicester City Vs West Ham United - Wednesday 22nd January (19:30)

Overview

Leicester’s fantastic start to the season looks to be slowing down astronomically. Since their 4-1 win over Aston Villa, they have dropped 14 points from a possible 21 after previously only dropping 10 points from a possible 48. However, during their poor spell, they did pick up a 2-1 win away to the Hammers without talisman Jamie Vardy. A result that led to Manuel Pellegrini being sacked just two hours later. Will David Moyes’ West Ham better that of Manuel Pellegrini in this mid-week game?

MG’s Prediction

I think Leicester are capable of going on a dreadful run but I think that this will be one of the games that they win. The Hammers are still the same side that they have been throughout this season. They just seem to care a little more under Moyes. Leicester to win - narrowly.

Leicester to win by 1 - 5/2

TM’s Prediction

Leicester were fairly poor against Burnley, and weren’t exactly at their best against Southampton either. West Ham look a bit more dogged and resilient, and if they retain that style of play they could cause problems for the Foxes.

Double Chance: Draw or West Ham - 6/4

Spurs Vs Norwich - Wednesday 22nd January (19:30)

Overview

Jose Mourinho desperately needs a win. He was 10mm away from one at the weekend against Watford but other than a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, Spurs are without a win in 2020. When it comes to picking one up in the Premier League, they won’t get a better chance of picking one up than at home to Norwich City who are rooted to the bottom of the table.

TM’s Prediction

Norwich will have been delighted with their win over Bournemouth, while Tottenham were frustrated once more - this time at Watford. Norwich will have chances, and in the absence of Harry Kane, they could hang onto a result if they get the opener.

Double Chance: Draw or Norwich - 2/1

MG’s Prediction

As a manager, I still adore Jose Mourinho. I think he’s one of the greatest to ever manage in the Premier League. However, his failure to adapt has left bitter memories of his time in management, they need a victory here and I think they’ll get it as Son pays back his manager.

Son Heung-Min to score - 23/20

Manchester United Vs Burnley - Wednesday 22nd January (20:15)

Overview

The injury of Marcus Rashford will be a major blow to Manchester United in midweek. However, it is widely expected that youngster Mason Greenwood will come in and fill that role, and considering Greenwood averages a goal every 126 minutes, he could fill the void if given the chance. However, Burnley picked up a vital win against Leicester to stop their run of four defeats in a row, can they make it back-to-back wins as the underdogs?

MG’s Prediction

Man United are fairly impressive at home and I think that they’ll steamroll over Burnley this week who will be buoyant after their win against Leicester, but I think once United breakthrough, they’ll crumble.

Man United to win 3-0 - 9/1

TM’s Prediction

Manchester United are in the unfortunate position of having to decide which competition gets their priority, with the FA Cup and Europa League looking like their biggest chances of success. Burnley will be able to play without pressure, and I can see that working in their favour.

Double Chance: Draw or Burnley - 2/1

Wolves Vs Liverpool - Thursday 23rd January (20:00)

Overview

The first of Liverpool’s two fixtures this week is a trip to Wolves who had a fantastic comeback victory against Southampton at the weekend. So both sides should be in a positive mind going into this one. Liverpool won the reverse fixture narrowly and Wolves had the chances to cause an upset, can they be the first side to inflict defeat on Liverpool this season?

TM’s Prediction

Both sides are playing good football, and the most intriguing part is that both have shown they can up their game to respond to conceding goals if required. To that end, I think there will be plenty of goalmouth action, and a fair few chances converted.

Over 3.5 Goals - 2/1

MG’s Prediction

I’ll make a prediction here that if Liverpool can avoid defeat here, they will go the full season unbeaten. Wolves will do their utmost to put a spanner in the works and I think after their performance at Anfield, they’ll fancy their chances. I’ll back that up by going for a Wolves win here.

Wolves to win - 19/4

West Ham United Vs Liverpool - Wednesday 29th January (19:45)

Overview

Neither of these sides will play a full-strength side at the weekend but both might have one eye on their game next weekend as the Hammers have a must-win game against Brighton whilst Liverpool host in-form Southampton. This game should be one that starts at a fast pace before calming down later in the game, something that might suit David Moyes’ West Ham.

MG’s Prediction

The amusing thing about this contest is, I can’t see anything but a Liverpool win. They might rest a few players and put a spanner in my Fantasy Football Tips but I want this one to be a goal-fest, so selfishly, I’ll go against that here.

Under 2.5 goals - 13/10

TM’s Prediction

It’ll be interesting to see how West Ham approach this game. Will they feel as if there’s nothing to lose, or will they view it as everything to gain? Regardless, Liverpool have shown they can deal with any tactical approach from the opposition, while also limiting the goals they concede.

Liverpool to win to zero - 21/20
