Premier League Predictions - Week 7

Premier League Predictions - Week Six

Today’s article is the seventh week of our Premier League Predictions which pitches our two betting experts against each other. A narrow victory for TM last week means that he has regained the lead and the score is now 3-2-1. Can MG recover? Find out with this week's blog!

Premier League Predictions - Week 7

From the highs of Arsenal Vs Aston Villa to the lows of Newcastle United Vs Brighton & Hove Albion, last weekend was a mixed one for English Football and Premier League Betting. We’re going to avoid any talk regarding VAR and just mention how good all but one of the live games were. As we hope for more of the same this weekend, we start our Premier League Predictions with Saturday’s early kick-off.

Sheffield United Vs Liverpool - Saturday 28th September (12:30)

Overview

Sheffield United picked up a promising victory away to Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals - Everton. However, Liverpool are one of only two sides with a 100% record in Europe’s top five leagues. The Blades only mustered two shots on goal against Everton but will that stat improve when Liverpool visit Bramall Lane?

TM‘s Prediction

It feels like no matter which approach Sheffield United take, they will suffer here. Liverpool are comfortable attacking from the off, as well as biding their time, and with the multiple threat of attacking Liverpool players, Sheffield United are likely to struggle. Plenty of goals in my book.

TM‘s Bet - Over 3.5 Goals (6/4)

MG’s Prediction

I think there’s no doubt that Chris Wilders side will park the bus and aim to hit Liverpool on the counter because… why wouldn’t they? Liverpool might concede on the counter but expect them to dominate the game here.

MG’s Bet - Liverpool to win + BTTS - 8/5

Aston Villa Vs Burnley - Saturday 28th September (15:00)

Overview

Arguably there is a divide between how a team performs at home compared to how they perform away and these two sides are prime examples of that. Neither have won away from home this season, but Burnley have two wins and Villa have one. The villains have looked impressive in their last two home games against Everton and West Ham United.

MG’s Prediction

Both these sides were favourites for relegation at the start of the season. Villa have performed well but are in the bottom three, meanwhile, Burnley are in the top half but were without a win in four before they beat Norwich last weekend. Villa need the win more and I think they’ll get it.

MG‘s Bet - Villa to Win

TM‘s Prediction

These two sides look very difficult to separate. Chris Wood and Wesley have looked lively for their respective sides, and you feel as if they’ll be the difference, so I’ll back over 2.5 goals.

TM‘s Bet - Over 2.5 Goals (10/11)

AFC Bournemouth Vs West Ham - Saturday 28th September (15:00)

Overview

Both these sides picked up fantastic victories last weekend. West Ham put their defensive troubles on the shelf as they racked up their third clean sheet in a row and are unbeaten since their drubbing from Manchester City. The Cherries are still conceding a lot of goals but they’re winning games which is all that matters.

TM‘s Prediction

At the moment it feels like Bournemouth are unpredictable. They’ve very capable of goals, but they’ve also conceded in every game so far. This feels like it will go the same way as their opening game, so we’ll go with the draw here.

TM‘s Bet - Draw (13/5)

MG’s Prediction

Last season, I’d suggest this fixture would finish 3-3. However, I think this year we’ll see a free-flowing game without a lot of goals. Which means, this bet has a fair bit of value.

MG’s Bet - Under 2.5 goals

Chelsea Vs Brighton & Hove Albion - Saturday 28th September (15:00)

Overview

Chelsea were unlucky to lose against Liverpool, meanwhile Brighton dominated Newcastle but were absolutely dreadful in reality. Chelsea games this season have guaranteed goals but Brighton, who are without a win since the opening day of the season, will need to improve to have any chance of victory here.

MG’s Prediction

Chelsea will dominate here in my opinion. Brighton’s game against Newcastle was one that made National League North fixtures look like the Champions League. I think Tammy Abraham will have a field day here and Chelsea will dominate.

MG‘s Bet - Chelsea to win 3-1

TM's Prediction

I’m still not prepared to get on the Chelsea bandwagon. They create chances, that’s clear to see, but I also see some weaknesses in the side. Brighton were fairly toothless against Newcastle, but I think they can keep the score low here.

TM‘s Bet - Under 2.5 Goals (5/4)

Crystal Palace Vs Norwich City - Saturday 28th September (15:00)

Overview

Away from home, Norwich City have looked absolutely dreadful this season scoring just once in their three games. Meanwhile, Palace have looked competent yet unremarkable at Selhurst Park this campaign and the key to their unbeaten run is their defence. They’ve conceded only one goal at home this season. Less than any other side.

TM‘s Prediction

Norwich have been poor on the road, Crystal Palace are unbeaten at home, so on paper this should be at least a point for the home side. So rarely does football work out like that, so I’m going with an away win for the Canaries.

TM‘s Bet - Norwich to Win (11/4)

MG’s Prediction

Can’t say I'm a big fan of the way Crystal Palace play but it seems to be effective. Norwich need their first points on the road this campaign and I think they might tweak their system a bit here. I’d be tempted to go for under 1.5 goals at 16/5 but I’ll take a safer option here.

MG’s Bet - Under 2.5 Goals - 11/10

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Southampton - Saturday 28th September (15:00)

Overview

Both of these sides need to bounce back this weekend after a disappointing defeat last time out. Southampton dominated possession against Bournemouth but ended up with a poor result. Meanwhile, Spurs were simply outplayed against Leicester in the second half. Southampton have a good away record so far this season, meanwhile Spurs suffered a blip at home to Newcastle. So anything could happen here.

MG’s Prediction

Tottenham need to pick things up this week as a defeat here would leave them six points off the top four and they’re already 10 points off Liverpool. They’ll shine offensively but I’m not sure how they’ll cope at the back.

MG‘s Bet - Spurs to Score Twice

TM‘s Prediction

Southampton will have chances, but with Lloris back in goal I doubt there’ll be an upset. Tottenham have all the necessary ingredients to grab a hatful of goals, so I’m going with there to be four or more in total.

TM‘s Bet - Over 3.5 Goals (8/5)

Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs Watford - Saturday 28th September (15:00)

Overview

It could be argued that this fixture is the battle of this seasons disappointments. Since their fantastic FA Cup Semi-Final last season, neither side has looked particularly great in the Premier League. Wolves have the Europa League excuse but Watford have just been plain awful.

TM‘s Prediction

Wolves have been underwhelming so far this season, to say the least, with Watford arguably joining them in that category. It feels like both will try their best to set things right in this one, but will ultimately cancel one another out.

TM‘s Bet - Draw (5/2)

MG’s Prediction

As someone who thought both these sides would struggle this campaign I am very much inclined to start this off with “I told you so”. However, I also said back in my Premier League analysis that these teams would start slow and improve. Wolves will grab their first three points here and condemn Watford to their fifth defeat. You Eight to see it.

MG’s Bet - Wolves to Win - Evens

Everton Vs Manchester City - Saturday 28th September (17:30)

Overview

Everton’s home form has been fairly good this season but they’ll need to be at their best to repel a Manchester City side who’ve scored 10 goals in three away games. They’ll need a big performance from their strikers as they’re unlikely to keep a clean sheet but with City only possessing one fit first-team central defender, this could be a classic.

MG’s Prediction

Well… The overview pretty much says what I’m about to. Goals. Goodison’s only seen eight in three games this season. I expect them to see another 4 at least in this one.

MG‘s Bet - Over 3.5 goals

TM‘s Prediction

I cautiously predicted that Watford might get something against the reigning champions last weekend and I couldn’t have been more wrong. I think Everton will give them more issues though, and I’ll back them to get a goal. We all know Man City will respond with goals of their own.

TM‘s Bet - BTTS (4/5)

Leicester City Vs Newcastle United - Sunday 29th September (16:30)

Overview

We would argue that Newcastle were worse than Watford last weekend with defender Fabian Schar being very vocal about his thoughts on his teams' display. Leicester, on the other hand, were fantastic against Tottenham. You would say that this will only go one way.

TM‘s Prediction

As we’ve discussed, Newcastle’s game with Brighton last weekend was bordering on ‘anti-football’. I can’t see them troubling a side brimming with talent, and Leicester will succeed where Brighton couldn’t, and find at least a goal.

TM‘s Bet - Leicester to win to zero (6/5)

MG’s Prediction

I feel for Newcastle fans because a lot of them are torn. They want to attend the games but they’re sick of the football and decision making of Mike Ashley. If they had replaced Benitez with someone competent then they’d be fine - but they haven’t. Meanwhile, Leicester are a great side so at 23/10 this bet seems like great value.

MG’s Bet - Leicester to win & Under 2.5 Goals - 23/10

Manchester United Vs Arsenal - Monday 30th September (20:00)

Overview

On paper, this is the biggest game of the weekend. However, in reality, the decline of these two sides is quite sad. When our writers were growing up this was a title-deciding fixture, now it feels like it means nothing. United need to bounce back after a shocking defeat but Arsenal dramatically came back to beat Villa last time out.

MG’s Prediction

How much longer does Ole have as Manchester United manager? One win in their last five which contained defeats to West Ham and Crystal Palace and dropped points against Southampton and Wolves. A few more defeats might just spell out the end.

MG‘s Bet - Draw

TM‘s Prediction

Arsenal are leaky, but Manchester United are rudderless. You’d back the away side to have chances, and with David De Gea seemingly lacking in morale and confidence, you’d expect them to take those chances. Arsenal to win.

TM‘s Bet - Arsenal to Win (2/1)
