Now, back to the reason, we’re here: The Premier League Predictions for Week 8!

Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Tottenham Hotspur - Saturday 5th October (12:30)

Overview

Spurs faced a dominant Bayern Munich side in midweek may suffer from a bit of fatigue in this fixture. However, they come up against one of the out-of-form teams in the division when they face Brighton. Graham Potter’s side have scored just one in their last four Premier League games and will need to perform much better to beat this Tottenham Hotspur side. Will Spurs return with a vengeance or with a whimper?

MG’s Prediction

I’m not entirely sure Spurs will break Brighton down and if they do I can see it being a low scoring affair. Under 2.5 goals has no value so I’ll go for Spurs to keep a clean sheet.

MG’s Bet - Spurs to keep a clean sheet

TM‘s Prediction:

Tottenham suffered in their midweek European match to say the least, but they showed flashes of good football, flashes that I don’t see Brighton coping with. Spurs to win in my book.

TM‘s Bet - Tottenham to win (Evens)

Burnley Vs Everton - Saturday 5th October (15:00)

Overview

Everton come into this tie on the back of three successive defeats meanwhile Burnley have picked up just one win in that time but they are unbeaten. A defeat for Everton here would do nothing for the pressure put on Marco Silva right now, as the division’s main underperformers and 12 goals conceded in their last five games can Everton find a fix to their defensive woes.

TM‘s Prediction:

Neither side have quite got going this season, but they both have the ability to score goals, so I think that’s what we’ll see here. I can’t decide on a final score, but I do fancy one of these teams to edge the three points.

TM’s Bet - Over 2.5 goals

MG’s Prediction

I’ve got a feeling this is going to be an absolutely awful game. Both sides haven’t played particularly well this season but Burnley have picked up results while Everton have struggled. Turf Moor will be a tough place to go this season however and I think Turf Moor will end up as a bit of a fortress this season, especially against out of form teams.

MG‘s Bet - Burnley to Win - 37/20

Norwich City Vs Aston Villa - Saturday 5th October (15:00)

Overview Norwich are fantastic at home and should perform well in what is a battle of two of this seasons promoted sides. Both these sides will need to pick up points in these games to avoid relegation and although Newcastle Vs Brighton was already deemed as this season's first six-pointer, this is definitely the second and for what it’s worth, we’re expecting a much better free-flowing game here.

MG’s Prediction

If anyone has been keeping track of Norwich’s good and bad results, they’ll notice a distinct divide between their home and away form. Norwich to win at home to Aston Villa is a goldmine.

MG’s Bet - Norwich to win (7/5)

TM‘s Prediction:

Both of these teams have adapted to returning to the Premier League better than a lot of people thought they would. Carrow Road has been the venue for some exciting football matches already this season, so I’m going for there to be goals here.

TM‘s Bet - Over 3.5 Goals (7/5)

Liverpool Vs Leicester City - Saturday 5th October (15:00)

Overview

Both these sides come into this game with a good run of form and quite frankly, we would much rather watch this game on the TV than Newcastle Vs Manchester United. We should see some fast-paced attacking football here and Brendan Rodgers would’ve been hoping Liverpool played a better opponent in the mid-week before their clash.

TM‘s Prediction:

Liverpool are going to win in my opinion, but it’s debatable whether it will be a landslide or not. Leicester got a big win over Newcastle in their last match, while Liverpool may be tired from European football. I think Leicester might get a goal.

TM’s Bet - Liverpool to Win & BTTS (17/10)

MG’s Prediction

I’m very interested in seeing how this game pans out. I don’t think I can call it if I’m honest. However, Sadio Mane usually performs quite well against Leicester so that’s what I’m going to base this bet on.

MG‘s Bet - Sadio Mane to score anytime - 6/5

Watford Vs Sheffield United - Saturday 5th October (15:00)

Overview

Every game against predicted bottom-half opposition looks massive for Watford at the moment, you look at their front line and think, they should be fine but defensively, they’re lacking. On paper, this is probably their best chance of picking up an early three points.

MG’s Prediction

I can’t see Watford winning this one, however, it’s simply a must-win and if they fail, they are in serious trouble. I do think they’ll fail and with Watford’s defence, a clean sheet seems scandalous. I’d be very tempted to go with a 1-2 Sheffield United win at 12/1 but if I’m playing it safe, I’ll go with this.

MG’s Bet - Draw with Goals

TM‘s Prediction:

I agree that Watford need to win this one, but the tactic of returning to an ex-manager who couldn’t quite do it for you is bold to say the least. I’m backing Sheffield United to claim the three points.

TM‘s Bet - Sheff Utd to Win (5/2)

West Ham United Vs Crystal Palace - Saturday 5th October (17:30)

Overview

A win for either of these teams could see them finish the weekend in the top four. West Ham have been the surprise package this season and although they’ve always had a quality strike-force, the surprise comes defensively as in previous seasons they’ve been suspect. Meanwhile, for Palace it’s the same as usual but they’re turning losses into draws and draws into wins so far.

TM‘s Prediction:

West Ham are quite hard to predict, but I fancy them to have too much for Crystal Palace at home. That said, the away side will have chances, and you’d expect them to take at least one.

TM’s Bet - West Ham to win + BTTS

MG’s Prediction

I actually really enjoy watching this West Ham side play, they’re dynamic in attack and have a decent defence. Under 2,5 goals is under evens, so I’ll steer clear of that and go for a safer option above evens.

MG‘s Bet - West Ham to win + Under 3.5 goals - 17/10

Arsenal Vs Bournemouth - Saturday 6th October (14:00)

Overview

Arsenal and Bournemouth have clashed four times at the Emirates since the Cherries were promoted, the aggregate scoreline? 13-2 in favour of the Gunners. This tells us that there should be goals here. However, we would suggest that this Bournemouth side is arguably the best we’ve seen.

MG’s Prediction

Arsenal are a side who expect a lot more than what they’ve been given in recent years. However, with Aubameyang up-front anything can happen and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another 3-4 goals scored by the Gunners here. However, we all know I despise an easy bet.

MG’s Bet - First goal between 11th-20th minute

TM‘s Prediction:

Bournemouth have goals in them, and Arsenal hardly have the strongest defence. But what they lack at the back, the Gunners more than make up for at the opposite end, with some key players who will be keen to combine for a rout.

TM‘s Bet - Arsenal to Score Over 2.5 Goals (21/20)

Manchester City Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers - Sunday 6th October (14:00)

Overview

City had a much harder time breaking down Dinamo Zagreb than they might have expected but Wolves endured a very tough game in Turkey on Thursday. Both these sides might not be at their best but Wolves have a pretty good record against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. This could be an interesting one.

TM‘s Prediction:

This feels like the kind of game where Wolves are going to shock their opposition, but Man City will recover with a hatful of goals. 4-2 to the home team is my gut feeling, but I’ll go with a safer total goals prediction.

TM’s Bet - Over 4.5 Goals

MG’s Prediction

I have to say I like TM‘s thinking here. Both sides are weaker defensively than they should be and you can expect both to score. However, in the interest of the competitive edge, I’ll take a risk here.

MG‘s Bet - Under 2.5 goals - 21/10

Southampton Vs Chelsea - Sunday 6th October (14:00)

Overview

The Saints have had a steady start to their campaign whilst Chelsea have been the definition of a perfect Both Teams to Score bet. This, however, might be one of their lowest scoring affairs unless Southampton have their shooting boots on.

MG’s Prediction

I think Southampton will hold Chelsea for the first twenty minutes and then try and attack the Blues as they did against Liverpool. The Saints struggled to take their good chances and were eventually hit late in the first half, I see a repeat here.

MG’s Bet - One goal in the first half

TM‘s Prediction:

I don’t see this one being a classic by any stretch of that term, and I had success with backing a low scoring affair when Chelsea took on Brighton. I’ll repeat that prediction for this one.

TM‘s Bet - Under 2.5 Goals (11/10)

Newcastle United Vs Manchester United - Sunday 6th October (16:30)

Overview

Believe it or not, these two sides were once neck-and-neck for the Premier League title. Now Manchester United are a shell of what they used to be and Newcastle, well, least said the better. This is possibly the one game nobody wants to see on TV and if we see a goal it’ll likely be from a defensive error rather than an amazing piece of skill.

TM‘s Prediction:

I’m very much hoping this head-to-head doesn’t come down to this match. Manchester United are struggling, but with Newcastle looking rudderless the consensus is for an away win. I just have a feeling Newcastle will get another shock result before returning to their underwhelming norm.

TM’s Bet - Newcastle to win 33/10

MG’s Prediction

If Steve Bruce and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aren’t sacked by December I’ll be surprised. Both are under-performing but I think these are probably the two toughest jobs in the Premier League right now. Man United dominate in what is a boring affair.

MG‘s Bet - Man United to win 1-0 - 6/1
