Premier League Predictions - Gameweek 9

Written: 18th October 2019

Premier League predictions

Well, that international break was dire, wasn’t it? Thankfully, Premier League football is back on our screens for the ninth round of fixtures, which means we’re nearly a quarter of the way through the 2019/2020 campaign. Although at 21.co.uk usually specialise in Casino Games this season had so much anticipation behind it that we just couldn’t help but write these predictions, so without further ado, let’s get into the predictions for week 9!

Everton Vs West Ham United - Saturday 19th October (12:30)

Overview

At the start of the season, you may have predicted this being a clash between two top-half sides. If you had, then it was clear you’d never watched Marco Silva’s Everton. A side with tonnes of promise but awful management. Silva needs a spark from his Everton side to keep his job while West Ham are sitting comfortably in 8th.

MG’s Prediction

I’m actually looking forward to Everton without Marco Silva. However, the options they’re apparently looking at are possibly even worse. I’d say West Ham are the favourites but I’ll start off bold..

MG’s Bet

West Ham to Win + BTTS 5/1

TM's Prediction

Neither side has been great so far, but with Everton lacking morale, and Seamus Coleman suspended for this tie, I think backing the away team to win at Goodison is a sensible prediction.

TM's Bet

West Ham to Win - 14/5

Aston Villa Vs Brighton & Hove Albion - Saturday 19th October (15:00)

Overview

A relegation six-pointer if we have ever seen one. These two had fantastic victories last time out but the International Break may have come at the worst possible time, both of these sides will see this game as one they can win and whoever does, could finish the weekend in the top half of the table.

TM's Prediction

Aston Villa looked very good in their last league game, putting Norwich to the sword at Carrow Road. They’ve already beaten Brighton this season, albeit in the cup, but I fancy them to do so again.

TM's Bet

Aston Villa to Win - 7/5

MG’s Prediction

Aston Villa on their day look like a very capable side and they demonstrated that against Norwich. I’m unsure if Brighton were particularly good against Spurs or if the London side were just dreadful. Think the Seagulls will leave the Midlands with a share of the points here.

MG’s Bet

DRAW 49/20

Bournemouth Vs Norwich City - Saturday 19th October (15:00)

Overview

Norwich win at home and lose away, that’s what we said last time around and they lost 1-5 to Aston Villa, so literally anything could happen. They have a few more first-team players back from injury but Bournemouth are a side that grows in confidence every season and only Manchester City have won at Dean Court this season.

MG’s Prediction

Norwich need a result to make up for their trashing by Villa but I think Bournemouth will be too strong here. Expect tonnes of fast-paced attacking football.

MG’s Bet

First Goal 11th-20th Minute - 4/1

TM's Prediction

Every week I seem to be predicting Norwich to win, and it’s beginning to cost me. They have some good players, and I expect them to return to their attacking best at the Vitality Stadium. There will be goals.

TM's Bet

Over 3.5 Goals - 21/20

Chelsea Vs Newcastle - Saturday 19th October (15:00)

Overview

The international break might have come at a bad time for Newcastle but it does give Steve Bruce more time to prepare his side against a Chelsea side who are effectively the 2019/20 rendition of the entertainers, this is a tie where you wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up 1-0 or 3-3.

TM's Prediction

Last Premier League game week, I said: “Newcastle will get another shock result before returning to their underwhelming norm”. I’ve gotten the first part of that spot on, so now time for the second. Landslide win for Chelsea.

TM's Bet

Over 3.5 Goals - 29/10

MG’s Prediction

Two wins against top-six sides and two trashings by Leicester and Norwich leave Newcastle in a strange position. They’ll fancy themselves on the counter but they’re too weak defensively to keep the Blues out. Chelsea will win but I think Newcastle will score.

MG’s Bet

Chelsea to win and BTTS - 17/10

Leicester City Vs Burnley - Saturday 19th October (15:00)

Overview

Both these sides have surprised pundits this season with Leicester sitting in the top four and Burnley in seventh. Burnley were unbeaten in four before the international break and their first match back may be more difficult than the other four combined.

MG’s Prediction

I really like this Leicester side and I think they’ll only improve as the season goes on. Burnley will pose a threat but Leicester should have too much for the Clarets on this occasion.

MG’s Bet

Half Time Draw - Full Time Leicester - 59/20

TM's Prediction

Leicester made life difficult for Liverpool last time out, while Burnley got a crucial victory over the other Merseyside team. I think Leicester will edge it, but Burnley will push them all the way.

TM's Bet

Leicester to Win + BTTS - 47/20

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Watford - Saturday 19th October (15:00)

Overview

The battle of the catastrophes, both of these sides would have been praying for the international break after a dismal few weeks. Watford might not get a better chance to win away from home this season if Spurs haven’t figured out some answers to questions they had after the 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

TM's Prediction

Similarly to Norwich, I’ve backed Watford perhaps more than I should, but with injury problems, low morale, and managerial uncertainty in North London, I genuinely think the Hornets could well get a win here.

TM's Bet

Watford to Win - 6/1

MG’s Prediction

If rumours surrounding the discontent at Spurs is to be believed, there is bad blood behind the scenes and legitimately anything could happen, luckily they’re against Watford who might be the worst team in the league at present.

MG’s Bet

Two goals in first half - 9/4

Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs Southampton - Saturday 19th October (15:00)

Overview

Wolves have recovered from a slow start to the season to now sit mid-table and in a healthy Europa League position, meanwhile, Southampton lost three in a row before the international break, so while some of the Wolves players may have welcomed the rest - the break may have suited Southampton.

MG’s Prediction

Wolves will need to pick up wins in games like this if they’re to have a successful season. They’re against an average Southampton side and they don’t have the issue of midweek Europa League fixtures. Expect a Wolves win here.

MG’s Bet

Wolves to Win + Under 3.5 goals - 27/20

TM's Prediction

Wolves haven’t looked like the side from last season, there’s no doubting that. However, they’ll be buoyed by their most recent result, a 2-0 win at Man City. Southampton, meanwhile, were mauled 4-1 by Chelsea. There will be chances, and I expect at least three goals.

TM's Bet

Over 2.5 Goals - 21/20

Crystal Palace Vs Manchester City - Saturday 19th October (17:30)

Overview

This is a fixture where Palace either cause an upset or Manchester City to dominate, City have won just one of the last three meetings between the sides but have won the other four games since 2017 by at least a 2-goal margin.

TM's Prediction

It’s tempting to make a prediction that Crystal Palace will win this one, with odds of 10/1. However, the more sensible approach is to back Man City to score a bundle of goals. I’ll not fully commit either way, and just say there will be a lot of goals.

TM's Bet

Over 3.5 Goals - 11/10

MG’s Prediction

A defensive Crystal Palace take on a defensively inept Manchester City side, another game where I expect a lot of goals, over 3.5 is the easy bet, so I’ll try and go a step further.

MG’s Bet

City to Win 2-1 - 17/2

Manchester United Vs Liverpool - Sunday 20th October (16:30)

Overview

Once upon a time, this was the biggest game of the calendar year. Now, it’s a little bit deflating, Liverpool are unbeaten this season and despite not looking as solid as they did last season have rarely been threatened. As for Manchester United… Well, Ole’s at the wheel but they’ve been stuck at a traffic light for about 6 months now.

MG’s Prediction

Manchester United is lacking soul while Liverpool is bursting from the seams with passion and desire. I’d be surprised at anything but a convincing Liverpool win.

MG’s Bet

Liverpool to score 2.5 goals - 12/5

TM's Prediction

Manchester United lacked quite a lot of things against Newcastle, and attacking threat was among them. I’d say Liverpool are better equipped than the Magpies to deal with those players, making the likelihood of United scoring even less likely.

TM's Bet

BTTS = No - Evens

Sheffield United Vs Arsenal - Monday 21st October (20:00)

Overview

This is one of the many games that we’re really looking forward to this week. Chris Wilder’s Blades host the Gunners. These two sides could be deemed as polar opposites and we quite frankly can’t wait to see the passion of Sheffield United take on the pizazz of Arsenal.

TM's Prediction

I think this will be a very close game. Were it in London, I’d say Arsenal would edge it by the odd goal. Given that Sheffield United are at home, I’ll back the draw, as they’ve got the ability to make life difficult for Arsenal.

TM's Bet

Draw - 27/10

MG’s Prediction

This should be a very good game but it’s going to be one that’s short on goals in my opinion. Arsenal are good but they’ll struggle to break down this Sheffield United side and if they over-commit, the Blades will pounce and cut open Arsenal. This could be a truly unique fixture this week.

MG’s Bet

Arsenal to win 2-1 - 33/4
