Premier League Predictions - Week Six

Written: 20th September 2019

Today’s article is week six of our Premier League Predictions which pitches our two Football betting experts against each other. With the scores tied at 2-2-1, the question remains, can either MG or TM develop a substantial lead?

Premier League Predictions - Week 6

Last weekend was a fantastic week in terms of quality and goals provided, with six out of the ten fixtures providing four goals or more. The real highlight was Norwich City’s 3-2 win over Manchester City at Carrow Road but Chelsea’s 5-2 win over Wolves definitely should not be overlooked. We can hope for the same this week with a Super Sunday which looks set to blow our minds, but it all kicks off with tasty looking New Forest derby on Friday Night and that’s where we will start.

Southampton Vs AFC Bournemouth (Friday 20th September, 20:00)

While Southampton Vs Bournemouth isn’t the biggest derby on the south coast, there is definitely a little more to this fixture then what meets the eye. Southampton have had an edge over the Cherries in recent years and haven’t lost in the last six meetings between the sides. Recent form also favours Southampton - they are unbeaten in three while Bournemouth have lost 2 of their last three.

MG’s Prediction

Bournemouth’s poor defensive record usually means that there are goals in their fixtures but Southampton are a solid side who could ensure this ends up a low scoring affair. However, because Southampton are at home I think there’s only one sure-fire bet here which is Both Teams To Score. At betting odds of 5/8 I don't see much point in backing it as my one bet for the match.

MG’s Tip: First Half = 1 Goal

TM‘s Prediction

I still don’t rate either of these teams particularly, but some decent recent form makes this a rather difficult match to call. Something in my head is saying it’ll end up even, but if I had to come down from that fence I’d say the away side are going to edge it.

TM‘s Tip: Bournemouth to win (51/20)

Leicester City Vs Tottenham Hotspur (Saturday 21st September, 12:30)

Leicester City suffered their first defeat of the season at Old Trafford last weekend, meanwhile, Spurs convincingly dismantled Crystal Palace 4-0. This fixture has provided 25 goals in the last five meetings between the two sides and has included 5-4 and 1-6 victories for Tottenham. One thing is for certain, this should be a very interesting tie.

TM‘s Prediction

You’d fancy both teams to score in Saturday’s early game, and with Tottenham’s only blip this season coming against Newcastle, you’d fancy them to get 2 or 3 goals at the King Power. I’m hoping it’s the latter.

TM‘s Tip: Over 3.5 Goals (2/1)

MG’s Prediction

I think any side who attempt to attack Tottenham have a pretty good chance of breaking them down and Leicester will definitely try. The harsh reality of this is that with their front line, Spurs could score 3-4 before you do break them down. Which is why I’ve gone for this bet.

MG’s Tip: Spurs to win + BTTS - 3/1

Burnley Vs Norwich City (Saturday 21st September, 15:00)

Norwich City pulled off a fantastic victory over Manchester City last weekend which was only their second win of the season. Meanwhile, Burnley haven’t won since the first game of the season and looked destined for another loss against Brighton last weekend before a great strike from Jeff Hendrick saved them. Both have in-form strikers and both could do with the points.

MG’s Prediction

Norwich City are a fantastic side when they’re given room to counter-attack but I think when they play Burnley it’ll much more of a compact game and maybe won’t suit the Canaries. However, I can’t say I’ll ever bet against them…

MG’s Tip: Draw

TM‘s Prediction

Hard to argue with MG, in terms of betting against Norwich. They may well find it tougher than in their last match (which is a ridiculous statement), but if there’s one man you’d back to give the away side a chance, it’s Teemu Pukki, baby.

TM‘s Tip: Teemu Pukki to Score Anytime (6/4)

Everton Vs Sheffield United (Saturday 21st September, 15:00)

The first of the Saturday 3PM kick-offs comes to us from Goodison Park a place where the Blades haven’t won since 1993. Everton have had an inconsistent start to the season and have only picked up points against Wolves and Watford - the two sides who are without a win this season. Sheffield United are also unbeaten on the road this season.

TM‘s Prediction

Every time these sides have taken to the pitch in their respective games this season, you’ve not known what to expect. It’s this unpredictability that means, in my mind, there will be goals for both sides. Just don’t ask me to predict a result, even though that’s essentially my job here.

TM‘s Tip: BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals (29/20)

MG’s Prediction

Sheffield United have been a lot better than most people have given them credit for so far this season and I would argue that, apart from in Everton’s 3-2 win against Wolves, the Blades have looked better then the toffees in every department. However, I think Everton know this is a must-win game and will react to that. So I’m going to repeat one of my other predictions.

MG’s Tip: Everton to Win + BTTS - 53/20

Manchester City Vs Watford (Saturday 21st September, 15:00)

Watford fought back from 2-0 down to secure a draw off Arsenal, albeit due to some dodgy defending. However, we saw that Manchester City are partial to a bit of dodgy defending themselves. Especially now Otamendi is their only fit first-team centre back. Will City’s attacking quality be enough to defeat Watford?

MG’s Prediction

I might ban myself from using someone to win and BTTS tip next week because this nearly got ridiculous. I was prepared to go for that bet until I saw over 4.5 goals at 31/20, which, ladies and gentlemen, should be a steal.

MG’s Tip: Man City to Win & BTTS

TM‘s Prediction

It’s sorely tempting to back a Watford away victory, seeing how both of these sides performed last weekend. I wouldn’t take out a second mortgage for a lump bet, but for me there’s value in putting a small amount on that result, or a draw at (35/4).

TM‘s Tip: Watford to Win (22/1)

Newcastle United Vs Brighton & Hove Albion (Saturday 21st September, 17:30)

This was picked out at the start of the season as a relegation six-pointer. Many believed this would be Newcastle’s first real chance at picking up three points this season and Brighton, well they’re probably on their expected points total but the loss at home to Southampton and the draw at home to Burnley may have Graham Potter a little worried.

TM‘s Prediction

Despite Newcastle’s success at Tottenham earlier this season, I think sides still look forward to playing them, particularly scrappy sides that know they could be in for a relegation fight come the end of the season. Enter Brighton, who will battle until the final whistle. Honours even, for me.

TM‘s Tip: Draw (11/5)

MG’s Prediction

If we know anything about this match, it’s that it won’t be the most entertaining of the weekend. The outcome will come down to which side makes a mistake and after making three defensive errors all of which led to goals against Liverpool, you have to think that’s something Steve Bruce is working on.

MG’s Tip: Newcastle 2-1 Brighton - 10/1

Crystal Palace Vs Wolves (Sunday 22nd September, 14:00)

Wolves have struggled so far this campaign and find themselves winless and in the bottom three. On the other hand, Crystal Palace have scored only one goal in three games. With them games being against Everton, Colchester United and Aston Villa at Selhurst Park, Wolves will think they have a great chance of picking up their first three points here.

MG’s Prediction

I think the Eagles have been lucky this season, Man United were absolutely dreadful and I think most sides in the division would’ve at least drawn with them on that day. Meanwhile, their win against Villa was a demonstration of everything wrong with VAR. I don’t expect many goals but I think if there is one, it’ll be late on.

MG’s Tip: First Half = No Goals

TM‘s Prediction

This is possibly my least favourite game of the weekend. Not for the lack of entertainment, but for the difficulty in predicting exactly what will happen. Let’s go with a simple prediction of over 2.5 goals.

TM‘s Tip: Over 2.5 Goals (7/5)

West Ham United Vs Manchester United (Sunday 22nd September, 14:00)

Both these sides picked up what turned out to be very good clean sheets in the previous round of fixtures. West Ham looked better against Villa with 10 men rather than 11. Man United failed to win in their two trips to the Hammers in 2018 and needed two penalties to win in their only meeting in 2019.

TM‘s Prediction

At the start of the season, I thought Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might be relieved of his duties before Christmas. Solid results like the 4-0 drubbing of Chelsea provide some exceptional highs, but the lows are the likes of losing to Crystal Palace. And, in this case, West Ham...

TM‘s Tip: West Ham to Win (12/5)

MG’s Prediction

Since Jose Mourinho’s side won 4-0 in 2017, United have struggled against West Ham. I can only see that continuing here, this could either be a goal-scoring bonanza or an edgy draw. So I’ll go with a safer option here.

MG’s Tip: Draw - 53/20

Arsenal Vs Aston Villa (Sunday 22nd September, 16:30)

If there was ever a game to sum up Arsenal it was last weeks against Watford, they had a gameplan which for 60 minutes was expertly executed. Then, Arsenal defended like children and Watford took advantage. The Gunners need to make up for those lost points somewhere and can’t afford to drop points here.

MG’s Prediction

Although Villa Vs West Ham was an entertaining tie, it was fairly dreadful in terms of goalmouth action. There were chances but I never felt like either side would take them. I think this will be a very different display and both sides will look to attack, this bet is probably a bit more outlandish but i’m going to go with a goalfest!

MG’s Tip: Over 4.5 goals

TM‘s Prediction

I was very close when I predicted Arsenal were going to lose away to Watford last weekend, but with them returning to the Emirates, this should be a routine win. I don’t see them running away with it though. Maybe 2-0.

TM‘s Tip: Arsenal to Win 2-0 (9/1)

Chelsea Vs Liverpool (Sunday 22nd September, 16:30)

On paper, this is without a doubt the fixture of the weekend, both sides picked up good wins at the weekend but looked fatigued in mid-week. Both will want to bounce back from their European disappointment here. Hopefully, neither side plays for the point and they both try and pick up all three.

TM‘s Prediction

Chelsea are heavily reliant on Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham, which is a problem in itself as they are still very young. The former also has to shake off an injury he suffered in European competition, but I expect them to score, I just expect Liverpool to score more.

TM‘s Tip: Both to Score, No Draw (5/4)

MG’s Prediction Based on stats, you would believe this game will have 5-6 goals. However, in my opinion, this will be the exact opposite and quite a cagey contest. That being said, you can bet at over 3.5 goals at 29/20, so my bet is…

MG’s Tip: Over 3.5 goals

Acca of the Week
