StatsBlast: The Best 23-man Home Nations Squad based off form
Written: 3rd September 2019
We believe here at 21.co.uk, - the home of online betting, that the home nations are very much overlooked when it comes to International Football as England have pushed at the pinnacle of both the World Cup and the Nations League in recent years. Which means that those sides potentially stuck in the middle pots perhaps don’t receive the coverage they deserve as they’re not currently fighting at the top with England. However, as we go deeper into the qualifying stages of Euro 2020, we decided to take a short break from our fantastic online casino content to provide some widely-versed online blog content on the home nations, including some football betting tips. In this article, we will be looking for the in-form home nations players from Europe’s top five leagues and comprising them into a 23-man squad, starting at the back with goalkeepers.

Below are the average player ratings so far this season - 10 being the highest
Nick Pope - 6.88
The Burnley shot-stopper has been in fine form so far this campaign making 17 saves in his first 4 games, only Hugo Lloris has made more.
Angus Gunn - 6.75
It’s been a tough start to the season for Southampton but they’ve been helped largely by Gunn who has made 15 saves and was instrumental in the Saints’ 1-1 draw against Manchester United at the weekend.
Jordan Pickford - 6.68
One of only three goalkeepers to have kept more than 1 clean sheet so far in the Premier League. Pickford is prone to errors but made some fantastic saves against Wolves as the Toffees ran out victorious 3-2.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 7.32
AWB has made 26 tackles so far this season, 6 more than any other Premier League player, although Man United’s clean sheet woes continue - AWB has definitely shown promising signs.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles/Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.22
Our first tie of the evening comes in the back-up right-back position as Maitland-Niles has performed fantastically at Right Back this season and Trent has played, well like Trent Alexander-Arnold does - well.
Enda Stevens - 7.16
Our first non-English player comes in the form of Enda Stevens, the Irish Sheffield United left-back has done fantastically both offensively and defensively this season.
Andrew Robertson - 7.06
Our first Scottish inclusion should come as no surprise as Robertson and Liverpool are the only Premier League side with a 100% record so far this season.
Tyrone Mings - 7.22
The surprise inclusion to England’s most recent squad perhaps shouldn’t be a surprise at all. Mings has had a fantastic start to the season with 12 more clearances than any other Premier League player.
Harry Maguire - 7.19
The most expensive Central Defender in the world for a reason. Maguire might not live up to that tag at times but he is 100% England’s best central defender.
Michael Keane - 7.14
Had a rather forgettable season last campaign but looks a lot sharper this year and will be instrumental in any potential success Everton may have this campaign.
Shane Duffy - 7.1
The Irishman has been fantastic for Brighton and has surpassed all expectations, we wouldn’t be surprised if he was ROI’s captain in the near future.
James Tarkowski - 7.1
Burnley have started the season strongly and that is largely down to the performances of James Tarkowski who has been solid alongside Ben Mee.
Central Midfielders (Attacking and Defending)
John McGinn - 7.55
Many would argue that Aston Villa wouldn’t be back in the Premier League without John McGinn and his performances this season show just why Sir Alex Ferguson is apparently a fan.
Mason Mount - 7.55
Now we all knew that Mason Mount would one day be a star but to think he would come in and have the impact that he has was unexpected and Mount has been instrumental to Chelsea so far.
James Maddison - 7.32
Maddison has a history of creating a fantastic amount of chances for his teammates over the last two seasons and has been instrumental in their success this season.
Scott McTominay - 7.07
Perhaps the surprise package of the central midfielders as he plays a more conservative role in comparison to the other three on this list but the Scot has performed above expectations so far this campaign.
Jadon Sancho - 8.28
The youngest Bundesliga player ever to score 15 goals is guaranteed to play for England in the next few weeks. Sancho has a very bright future and with him and Sterling alongside Harry Kane, England could shock a few major sides.
Raheem Sterling - 7.96
In what world was Raheem Sterling not going to make this squad, the Manchester City star is one of the best in the world today and essential to any success England may have.
Gareth Bale - 7.42
The Welshman may be out of favour at Real Madrid but Zidane knows that Bale is essential to any success that Real Madrid and Wales may have.
Daniel James - 7.06
The Manchester United winger has had a phenomenal start to the season after signing from Swansea.
Ashley Barnes - 7.58
So, it turns out that Ashley Barnes actually can play for England and he is actually the most in-form striker that qualifies for this list. Barnes as 4 goals in as many games and has been utilised perfectly under Sean Dyche.
Tammy Abraham - 7.3
There was a lot of discussion at the start of the season on who should start for Chelsea up-front. Abraham was Lampard’s choice and he hasn’t looked back since. Scoring four goals so far this season.
Marcus Rashford - 7.15
As Manchester United’s main striker this season, Rashford has performed well up-front but still has ways to improve.
