2019 NFL Week 1 Predictions & Betting Tips at 21.co.uk
Week 1 of the centenary season of the NFL is here and in a break from tradition, reigning Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots, won’t be kicking off the action in a Thursday night opening game.
Closing the week with a Monday night double play, fans will see the Saints host the Houston Texans in New Orleans, while the Denver Broncos pay a visit to California to face the Oakland Raiders.
Here at 21.co.uk, we’ll examine the full week 1 line up to make some early score predictions and take a closer look at some of the stand-out games of the week, adding in some of our top-rated NFL betting predictions, choosing different markets and finding value in each game under the spotlight.
Sunday 8th September
Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville Jaguars
It’s understandable that this game is one of the top-billed to cause upset early on, the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the most plugged teams coming into the centenary season and the Jacksonville Jaguars have been the silent underdogs for the past couple of years.
The Jaguars have built one of the strongest defensive lines in the NFL but will it be enough to stop the reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and his offensive cohort in their tracks? We’re doubtful here at 21, but that doesn’t mean the Jags won’t put up a valiant fight against the Chief’s explosive offence.
In reality, the Jags winning will depend on how effective their offence moves are - it’s already known that their defence can be dominant but at this point, it’s unsure how well they will perform under the coaching of Nick Foles following his mixed history. Will he lead them to the playoffs like he did the Philadelphia Eagles? Or will it be a repeat of the crash and burn he witnessed in 2015? And will it be enough to keep up with an offence made up of Mahomes, Tyreek Mill, Sammy Watkins and Travis Kelce? It may be an effort well worthy of praise but a suspected loss for Jacksonville in week 1.
Tennessee Titans at Cleveland Browns
One of the most contentious games of the season sees sudden contenders the Cleveland Browns face off against the Tennessee Titans, and we’re anxious to see how well the Browns fair.
There’s been strong talk among the NFL community about how strong the Browns could be in the 2019 season, following the draft where they picked up some of the best players in the league - meaning they should be able to achieve what has been their main goal for the past handful of seasons, put notches in their win column.
However, it won’t be an easy game for the Browns up against a solid Tennessee Titans defensive end, but the Browns have scored highly with their newest offensive liners such as Odelle Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry and Baker Mayfield - with this new lineup, hopefully the Cleveland Browns will be able to take a comfortable lead in the first week of the 2019 season, a well-deserved reward for their patient team building.
Monday 9th September
Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots
The Patriots are well known for their insane winning streaks and extremely dangerous defence, and with Tom Brady remaining under centre and Bill Belichick calling the shots it’s looking likely that their reputation will follow them into the 2019 season.
The Steelers aren’t a team to be overlooked, by any means. With a young and revived defence, it’s possible that they may make a play or 5 against the Patriots, however, it’s likely it won’t be enough to score higher than a team who seemingly will not relent. The Patriots will remain at the top of the league until Brady retires.
