FA Cup Betting
Why bet on the FA Cup
There’s a regularly said phrase that connotes exactly why people we’ve spoken to bet on the FA Cup: “The Magic of the Cup”. Smaller teams can go on incredible runs which see them take on and defeat Premier League opposition and defy the odds. Two examples of this came in 2016/17 when Lincoln City and Sutton United both had their Cup dreams shattered in the later rounds by winners Arsenal. Lincoln’s quarter-final appearance is still the furthest that a non-league side has gone in the competition. When it comes to football betting their journey was one of the biggest surprises in the history of the sport.
Who has won the FA Cup
The last team outside of the Premier League/First Division to win the FA Cup was West Ham United in 1979/80 as they put their 7th placed finish in the second division behind them to defeat to put away Arsenal in the final, and Arsenal finished 4th in the First Division that year. Since then only four teams outside of the Premier League have reached the final, Cardiff City (2007/08), Millwall (2003/04), Sunderland (1991/92) and Queens Park Rangers (1981/82) interestingly enough none of the sides who reached the final were promoted that season.
