Grand Slam of Darts Betting Tips & Odds
10th November sees the beginning of the much anticipated 2018 Grand Slam of Darts. Wolverhampton is still the host, though this time the Aldersley Leisure Village is the venue rather than the Civic Hall due to renovation work. 32 of the world’s best darts players will be looking to take home the winners cheque for £110,000. Check out the 21.co.uk Grand Slam of Darts Preview for everything you need to know about the tournament, while here are the darts betting tips and odds for all of the action.
Grand Slam of Darts Tips
It’s fair to say that the “Flying Scotsman” has not been in the best form throughout the last month or so, but darts is a confidence sport. If Gary Anderson turns up the gears and plays to his full potential, not many players in the world can live with him. Let’s remember that this is a man that won the Champions League of Darts in September, destroying his competition on that occasion. Anderson absolutely hates losing too, so he will not take kindly to putting in poor performances in both the European Championships and World Series of Darts. Odds of 5/1* for Anderson to lift the trophy look fairly generous.
Grand Slam of Darts Betting Tips and Predictions
|A||Michael van Gerwen||2/17*|
|H||Dimitri van den Bergh||11/4*|
This one seems like it should be fairly straightforward. Michael van Gerwen should not have too many issues winning his group, hence the massively short odds. The only player who may come close to even slightly troubling MVG is Jonny Clayton, and he is at a distant 7/1* for a reason.
Michael Smith needs to mentally recover from blowing 5 match darts to win the World Series last week. It was a thrilling final between “Bully Boy” and James Wade, which Smith had the better of throughout. It was just the crucial finish that let him down, but it should be a great contest between himself and Raymond van Barneveld to see who tops Group B.
Speaking of James Wade, he is the big favourite to win Group C and rightfully so. “The Machine” has been in incredible form over the last month or so, seemingly inspired by the birth of his son Arthur. Back to back TV titles in the European Championships and World Series of Darts have set him up brilliantly for this.
As our outright tip for the Grand Slam of Darts, it should come as no surprise that Gary Anderson is our tip to win Group D. Ian White may give him a good game, but Anderson should be far too strong for all 3 of his opponents in the early stages.
Peter Wright has earned his position as world number 2 in the PDC rankings with solid performances across a couple of years. He is a steady player that works incredibly hard on the training board, and we expect him to have few problems in winning Group E in the Grand Slam of Darts 2018. His match against Max Hopp should be decent.
The fact that Simon Whitlock is third favourite to win Group F shows that it is a group full of quality. The Australian often gets overlooked and it seems like the odds are against him qualifying. However, for us this means that there should be plenty of value in backing him as the group winner, with BDO World Darts Champion Glen Durrant and Gerwyn Price providing the stern opposition.
Mensur mania may be on hold for a while after a dip in form for the popular Austrian. Losing in the first round to James Wade in Vienna was a huge disappointment that he will be looking to bounce back from immediately. Group G has some decent players, such as Stephen Bunting and Martin Schindler, but neither should trouble Mensur Suljovic as he looks to qualify for the last 16.
With a group containing the current PDC World Darts Champion, it may seem strange to tip someone other than Rob Cross to top Group H. However, Cross has had a miserable year since claiming the world title in astonishing fashion. Dimitri van den Bergh is a young up and coming player that has all the talent in the world, and here at 21.co.uk we believe he will have a good tournament.
